The Web 2.0 era has begun as a result of the advancement of information technology.Weibo,We Chat, blogs, forums, and social networking sites are all undergoing rapid development.Social media is a relatively new form of media that uses Internet technology to disseminate and gather information.More and more individuals are coming into contact with social media and using it to produce, share, and spread information or receive information resources thanks to its inherent qualities of high openness, interactive involvement, and free sociality. This thesis is a translation practice report based on the translation content of Social Media Marketing: Strategies in Utilizing Consumer-Generated Content, which was published by American Business Experts Press in 2019.The book focuses on the function of consumer-generated content in social media marketing and offers a new perspective on social media marketing research. This book is a typical informative text, which not only involves a lot of social media marketing expertise but also maintains the writing characteristics of concise sentence patterns, clear logic, and well-organized structure. This report analyzes the translation difficulties and translation skills of the third chapter of the book with the aim of retaining the style of the original text to the maximum extent, realizing coherent discourse, and conforming to the reading habits of readers,so that readers can have a deeper understanding of social media marketing. This report consists of five parts:preface, literature review, process description, case analysis, and conclusion.Among them, the case study is the focus of this report. The analysis is at three levels: lexical, syntactic, and textual. At the lexical level, the translator makes full use of Internet search engines to find relevant parallel texts for reference,so as to ensure the accuracy of the translation of technical terms and jargon;at the syntactic level, the author uses translation techniques such as part-of-speech conversion and sentence adjustment to ensure the faithfulness and fluency of the translation;at the textual level, after comparing the grammatical cohesive devices of English and Chinese, the translator avoids formal cohesive correspondence and fully embodies the cohesive logic of discourse when doing translation. |
