A Report On The Translation Of International Cyber Operations Research Paper Series (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Explicitation

This report is based on the translation of two papers from the International Cyber Operations Research Paper Series published by UNIDIR at the end of 2021.It makes use of Munday’s analysis of explicitation,carries out an in-depth analysis of the translation practice and proposes several methods of explicitation that can be used.This report conducts its analysis respectively on the levels of grammar,semantics,pragmatics,and discourse.Results of the analysis show that in order to convey the original meaning accurately and clearly,many methods,such as denominalization,determinologization and/or expansion of culture-loaded words,should be used to explicitize meaning that is only implied in the source text.The use of specific explicitation methods in informative texts can help convey information effectively,help the target text readers better understand some implied meanings in the source text,and obtain a reading experience as close as possible to that of the source language readers.which can also provide a reference for the practice of English-Chinese translation of the same type.
