| This report is based on a E-C translation project of Tianji Telecom Employee Training Manual commissioned by Guangdong Tianji Telecom.This project contains two documents: Supply Chain Manual and Customer-Specific Requirements.The former one describes XX’s supply chain standard operating procedures and the latter one illustrates supplier’s quality management principles.Based on the analysis of the source text,the author finds the source text has following three characteristics.At lexical level,there are a large number of professional terms related to automobile,international trade,law,logistic industry,etc.Besides,there are hyphenated words.Moreover,polysemous words are commonly used in the source text.At syntactic level,there are a large number of parallel structures,passive voice and adverbial clauses of condition.At textual level,there are implicit logic relations and repetitive information.When dealing with these translation problems,the author selects Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation as the theoretical basis of this translation project.On the one hand,the author respects the meaning of the source text.On the other hand,the author emphasizes the communicative effect.When dealing with translation problems,the translator does not divide semantic translation and communicative translation into two single parts,but pays attention to the combination of the two methods.In detail,in view of terms,hyphenated words and polysemous words,the author mainly utilizes literal translation,unit shifts and extension to respect the source text as much as possible.The author utilizes conversion passive voice into active voice,word order adjustment,omission,addition to deal with the translation of parallel expressions,passive voice and adverbial clauses of condition,etc.,which centers on enhancing the fluency of the target text.For implicit logic relations and repetitive information,the author adds transitional words and subjects to obtain a translation with explicit logic relations and omits repetitive information and restructures all information to obtain a translation with plain expressions.Based on case analysis,the report finds that semantic translation and communicative translation are highly applicable to the translation of business documents related to the auto-mobile industry.This report provides reference for the translation of business texts related to the automobile industry. |
