In October 2021,Hunan Agricultural Group organized an online training course on soybean production and processing technology, with the aim of providing agricultural assistance to developing countries and improving their understanding of soybean production and processing. The course featured a high degree of repeated technical terms and the lecture frequently used running sentences when explaining concepts, resulting in a loose discourse structure. This requires the interpreter to fully exploit cohesive devices to enhance the cohesiveness of his consecutive interpreting while accurately conveying the meaning of the discourse.Taking the transcript of the soybean production lecture recording as the corpus, this report adopts case study method to identify the four main problems that occurred during the interpreting task:unclear reference, overused conjunction, monotonous reiteration and inappropriate collocation.Based on discourse coherence theory, the author proposes targeted strategies to these problems:to specify vague reference,to eliminate unnecessary conjunctions,to use synonyms and hypernyms, and to identify lexical chains.Through problems and strategies analysis, the report highlights the importance of using discourse cohesion devices during C-E consecutive interpretation, which may help the student interpreters enhance their output discourse cohesion when facing a similar agricultural interpretation task.
