According to the Opinions on Easing the Burden of Excessive Homework and Off-Campus Tutoring for Students Undergoing Compulsory Education, which was jointly released by the General Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council General Office in 2021,efforts should be made to improve the quality and efficiency of classroom teaching,in a bid to meet the policy objective. At the same time, the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022-year Edition)stresses the need to develop students’ core English literacy through English courses. In terms of classroom teaching,English teachers are required to carry out progressive learning activities, develop students’ skills in language transfer and application, and problem-solving and other advanced thinking skills, and deliver efficient classes. However, through a review of relevant literature and a field investigation, the author finds that today’s mainstream classroom teaching environment is an interactive multimedia one, featuring lecture-style teaching. Here are some more details about this teaching environment.First, only one teaching method is used in class, mainly lecturing.Second, there is a lack of innovative and varied use of information technology.Third,in-class learning activities are mainly about the acquisition and accumulation of knowledge,to the disadvantage of the cultivation of students’ advanced thinking skills. Finally, student interaction falls short of expectation. In order to explore and solve these problems, and to better implement the requirements of the new curriculum standards for English classes in the mainstream environment, this study constructs a Progression-type assisting model for junior high school English classes under the interactive multimedia environment, and carries out action study based on specific teaching cases, intended to change the current "teacher-oriented" classroom teaching structure, give full play to the role of information technology and teachers in education, and promote students’ all-round growth and develop their thinking skills. This study is carried out in four stages.First, through extensive reading of relevant literature, the concepts of interactive multimedia environment,progression-type,assisting mode,progression-type assisting mode in junior high school English lessons are defined, and related learning theories are elaborated.Secondly, through questionnaire surveys on and interviews with students and English teachers, the current situation of junior high school English teaching in the interactive multimedia environment is investigated, which provides relevant practical basis for this study.Third, based on the above-mentioned literature analysis, theoretical basis and practical basis,a progression-type assisting mode for junior high school English under the interactive multimedia environment is constructed. This model mainly includes three teaching stages in class, namely, acquisition, transfer and generation, and each stage includes four main classroom elements:goal, task, support and evaluation.Among them, teachers and technology assisted students’ learning throughout the process.Throughout the process, helping students to exert their subjectivity and initiative.Fourthly, the seventh graders are selected, and Go for it!Unit 1 "Can you play the guitar?"(Part 1a-3c)and Unit 4 "Don’t eat in class."(Part 1a-3c)are selected as the teaching contents.Practical activities designed based on this teaching model are carried out through two rounds of action study, and the effects of this model on the students are investigated.Through analyzing and summarizing the results of the study,it is concluded that students’ are more enthusiastic about English learning and more active in the classroom, that their awareness of and skill in knowledge transfer have been cultivated, and that their advanced thinking skills have been developed to a certain extent.
