Based on Denis Smalley’s Pentes and Vortex, the paper aims to study the relationship between sound forms and their combinations in his works and musical organization.Referring to the existing classification methods of sound types and learning from each other, the representation method of symbols plus graphics is established according to the actual research needs. On the basis of listening transcription and structural analysis of all the music, the sound forms in the works are recorded and analyzed.According to the occurrencefrequency, horizontal conjunction and the vertical combination of different sound forms in the works,it is concluded that the composer used homogeneous conjunctions of congruent,quasi-equal and approximate types, and heterogeneous conjunctions of different and contrast types in these two works.Same layer time, different layer time in-out mode of homogeneous, heterogeneous types of combinatons were also used.Next,it investigates the role of various independent timbre patterns, the conjunctions and combinations of various timbre patterns in music organization. And it can be found that the composer develops single or multiple sound materials through sound types, develops motivations based on sound types through expansion and reduction, develops music thoughts through call back and leed-in,and creates boundaries and structures through timbre types. Finally,on the basis of the above conclusions, some inferences are drawn, such as the arrangement of different sound types for different works by composers, the preference of composers to organize music in a truncated way,and the ubiquity of sound forms, and these inferences are discussed.
