The accelerated development of numerous countries’ economy has led to increasingly prominent environmental problems, which have seriously threatened social development as well as people’s lives and health.Antonio Gutteres, the UN Secretary General, has reminded that approximately 900 million people in the world will be severely affected by the rise of sea level. Therefore,in order to achieve a sustainable development,it becomes imperative to promote carbon emission reduction and carbon neutrality.Metaverse and Carbon Neutrality co-authored by China’s contemporary writers,Xiong Yan,Wang Bin and Xing Jie firstly combines metaverse with carbon neutrality, examines the relationship between metaverse and carbon neutrality and how the two mutually empower each other.Chapter 4 in the book is selected as the source text of the report, aiming to help foreign readers to understand the significance of metaverse to carbon neutrality, and demonstrate China’s proposals for solving challenges of sustainable development to the world. The translation practice report comprises five parts: Introduction,Task description,Process description,Case analysis and Conclusion. The introduction contains background, purpose and significance of the report;the task description embodies description of the source text, features of the source text and target readers;the process description outlines three stages: preparation for translation, translation process and quality control. In case analysis, under the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology theory, the translator makes an analysis of difficulties encountered in the translation process at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels, and puts forward corresponding solutions. In the conclusion, the translator’s harvest, shortcomings and vision for the future are contained. After this translation practice and report writing, the translator realizes the significance of metaverse to achieve carbon neutrality.Meanwhile, the main findings of this translation practice are as follows: firstly, for the technical terms, metaphorical expressions and proper nouns in scientific texts, initialism, annotation and literal translation can be adopted.Secondly, for the long and complex sentences and subjectless sentences in Chinese scientific texts,it is practicable to adopt division, use postpositional attributive, and add a formal subject.Thirdly, for the implicit logic of Chinese scientific texts, adding logical markers and substitution can be adopted. It is expected that the translation practice report would provide some references to the translation and studies of similar texts. |
