As the global aging process accelerates, more and more old people are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. It is especially important to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease and find preventive and therapeutic measures. The book,Alzheimer’s Disease Decoded: The History,Present, and Future of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, introduces the concepts, causes, research situations, and medical approaches to Alzheimer’s disease.Chapters 15 to 18,selected by the translator, contain new approaches to the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer ’s disease from a future perspective, which has already brought some help to research and development in this area,so the translator chooses this section for the translation material. This translation practice report consists of five parts: introduction, task description, process description, case analysis, and conclusion.Guided by Peter Newmark’s communicative translation and semantic translation, the translation practice presents an analysis at three levels. At the lexical level,it involves a large number of proper nouns, polysemous words and nominalized expressions. At the syntactic level,it contains passive sentences and long and complex sentences. At the textual level, lexical cohesion, grammatical cohesion, and context are considered to achieve the purpose of discourse cohesion and coherence.Given the different linguistic features and different cultural backgrounds, the translator adopts various methods to solve the problems encountered in translation. At the lexical level, the translator adopts literal translation with annotation, literal translation, and free translation to translate proper nouns, polysemous words and nominalized expressions. At the syntactic level, adjustment of the word order and syntactic linearity are applied to translate passive sentences and long and complex sentences. At the textual level, literal translation, ellipsis, and annotation are used to deal with lexical and grammatical cohesion issues. In this translation practice, the translator not only learns about AD,but also strengthens her knowledge and application of translation theory. The translator’s bilingual conversion ability, language analysis ability, and search capability have been somewhat improved, which has laid the foundation for subsequent study and work. The translator hopes that this translation will serve as a useful reference for Alzheimer’s research and help target readers to know more about the current situation of Alzheimer disease. At the same time, she also hopes that this translation report can provide some reference value for the translation of such texts in the future. |
