In English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition),the academic demands for vocabulary are increased,while the class hours are decreased,in which case,using English vocabulary strategies skillfully becomes the key to using class hours efficiently and out-of-class time autonomously.In such background,this study aims to know junior high school students’ situation in using vocabulary learning strategies and offer a reference for applying English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022edition).This study focuses on 282 junior high school students and uses questionnaire surveys,diaries and interviews.The following research questions are put forward.1.What strategies do ninth graders often use? 2.What differences do ninth graders have in different English levels in vocabulary learning strategies? 3.How do ninth graders change in using vocabulary learning strategies in a term?It is found that students use cognitive strategies,resource strategies,and memory strategies with a high frequency,and a low frequency in using regulation strategies and application strategies.Compared to the requirements for learning strategies and vocabulary knowledge in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition),students can meet the requirements in cognitive strategies,but fail in metacognition strategies.The differences in the use of vocabulary learning strategies for students with different English learning levels are in choices of vocabulary strategies,proficiency in strategies and flexibility in combining strategies.The students’ use of vocabulary learning strategies in a semester changed according to the changes of situation.Their usages are affected by factors in the environment,learners and language.This study also puts forward suggestions for students’ vocabulary learning and teachers’ vocabulary teaching.In theory,this study can develop the Dynamical Systems Theory in the field of English vocabulary learning strategies.In practice,it makes suggestions to students in improving their vocabulary learning abilities and give advice in teachers’ vocabulary teaching.It can also help teachers apply English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)in their class.
