As the Beijing Central Axis Architectural Complex,a tentative World Heritage Site project,gradually enters the process of preparing for the application,the research on the culture of the Beijing Central Axis has become a popular topic in the field of domestic culture in recent years.The ancient architectural complex of Beijing in the Ming and Qing Dynasties(early 14 th Century to early 20 th Century)was symmetrically arranged along the north-south Central Axis,forming the main layout of the central axis of the city.These Chinese-style buildings along the axis have unique architectural structures,and every detail reflects thousands of years of cultural accumulation and inheritance.The decorative components of ancient Chinese architecture are a diversified and exquisite form of art,showing unique artistic value.They are influenced and shaped by materials,functions,feudal hierarchy and traditional aesthetic ideas,and form unique artistic images through constant changes and innovations.These artistic images not only reflect the wisdom and creativity of the working people,but also contain the cultural connotations of Chinese civilization symbols.Among them,ridge beasts,as an important architectural decoration,play a more visual role compared with modern architecture,but the cultural symbol meaning they carry far exceeds their own functionality.The ridge beast decorative components reflect rich traditional artistic characteristics and ritual ideas,and have irreplaceable aesthetic value.The ten glazed running beasts on the roof of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City are even more incomparable in cultural significance.This project aims to explore the cultural connotations of the ten running beasts on the roof of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City,focusing on their expression and significance in the fields of artistic vision and cultural creativity.In order to prepare for the project research,I will consult relevant literature,social and online resources to understand the historical background,image characteristics,symbolic meanings and communication impact of the ten running beasts.Finally,I will create a series of illustrations based on the ten running beasts as the core elements through the research practice of digital painting.I hope to provide an innovative way of combining cultural heritage promotion and cultural tradition inheritance with modern popular culture through this method.Digital painting,as a medium with great communication potential,plays a positive role in promoting China’s excellent traditional culture.
