Appellative terms are commonly used to indicate kinship,social,or other relationships,including kinship terms and social terms.The extensive use of appellative terms in Chinese is a phenomenon of using terams with certain relationship characteristics to refer to people withont such relationship.The extensive use of appellative terms is a linguistic phenomenon with certain communicative significance,teaching of them plays an important role in the correct and proper use of appellative terms by foreign students for communication.However,for a long time,the research on appellative terms and their extensive use has focused more on historical tracing,describing the extensive use,the reasons for its occurrence,and the semantic and pragmatic analysis of the variants of extensive use.There has been relatively little discnssion on the cognitive mechanism and limiting factors of the appellative terms’extensive use,and the teaching in Chinese as a foreign language.The research on the extensive use of appellative terms is conducive to refining the research on Chinese appellative terms,increasing the depth of Chinese vocabulary research,exploring operable and targeted teaching methods,and promoting the teaching of appellative terms in Chinese as a foreign language.The research content is mainly divided into three parts,namely,the extensive use of kinship tenns,that of social terms,and the relationship between the first two and teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.It mainly solves three problems:what causes the extensive use of appellative terms,what restrictions are there on the extensive use,and what is the relationship between the extensive use of appellative terms and the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.First of all,we use the case study method,select several typical examples,and analyze the reasons,limiting factors and variant forms of the extensive use of kinship and social appellative terms combination with the materials in BCC corpus.Then,we study the extensive use of appellative terms by Chinese foreign learners with the help of interlanguage corpus,and make a statistical analysis of appellative terms in the reaching materials of Chinese as a foreign language,so as to put forward targeted suggestions for the teaching of appellative extensive use and implement them through the teaching design.Following the principle of intimacy and respect,the extensive use of kinship terms is a process of morphemes fall off or highlight a certain one,and the ambiguity of morpheme provides conditions for this process.Different forms of extensive use are subject to different restrictions in terms of the age,gender,status of the appellative objects and users,as well as the relationship between the two,as well as the occasions and forms.The emerging appellative terms are a special part of the extensive use of kinship terms,their original meaning has gradually weakened,and the degree of generalization is quite high,but it has not yet been fully popularized.Situations are also been limited,and the development still needs time to investigate.The extensive use of social terms can be divided into:the extensive tuse of specific occupational appellative terms,terms increasing others status,and appellative terms of people with certain characteristics.It is generally the result of cognitive metaphor,and are caused by the loss of some sememes on the basis of their vague meanings.The choice of these extensive used appellative terms often has a profound cultural background,reflecting the traditional values of the Chinese nation or modern social psychology.The use is mainly limited by the social status gap between the communicators,which often reflects various psychology in social communication-Finally,through the survey,it is found that the acceptance and mastery of the extensive used appellative terms by foreign students are both relatively low,and there are often various biases.Textbooks of TCFL do not pay enough attention to the appellative terms and their extensive use.Aiming at these problems,this paper puts forward targeted teaching suggestions,and carries out relevant attempts in the teaching design,hoping to help the teaching of the appellative extensive use.
