Until the second half of the 18 th century,the double bass was primarily used as an accompaniment instrument,providing support for harmonic structures in ensembles.The double bass as a solo instrument has been neglected.The opportunity for its development as a solo instrument began in the second half of the 18 th century,when composers consciously enriched the weaving of the double bass in their symphonic compositions,and works for solo bass began to emerge,with some 30 double bass concertos being written between 1760 and 1812.Giovanni Bottesini,an Italian composer of the Romantic period,is a typical representative of the development of the solo double bass,whose exquisite and outstanding performance techniques enjoy a high reputation in the history of music.He has made an indelible contribution to the development of the double bass.Many of his works are closely associated with the popular Italian opera style of the 19 th century.Double Bass Concerto No.2 in b minor is one of Bottesini’s most famous concertos.This concerto was first performed in Paris in 1857.It was titled “The Little Concerto for the Bass and the Orchestra“ when it was first performed.It is a masterpiece created by him in his middle period.From the structure and content of music to the display of bass skills,the works show a high artistic level,and play an important role in the history of bass concertos.This paper first combs the historical context of the bass,and then explores the development of the bass solo genre-concerto.On this basis,the style of the bass concerto is divided.In combination with the music style characteristics in the work of the second bass concerto in b minor,as well as Bottesini’s life,social background and music creation,we will put Bottesini’s concerto works into the development of the whole bass concerto,carry out a comparative study,and highlight its unique creation style.Finally,we will further put musical works into the historical development of the bass for open interpretation and reflection. |
