Cadenza,a musical term, originally refers to the ornamental passage at the end of vocal music works in the Baroque period. It used to be an improvised passage before the cadence and was later used in instrumental music to allow virtuoso display.Vanhal’s Double Bass Concerto in D Major,a classical original work of double bass,is a required repertoire for most music schools,as well as a regular repertoire for most orchestra auditions and music competitions around the world. The cadenza in this work not only demonstrates a unique music style, but also poses a technical challenge to players. This paper is divided into three parts.First, introduction of the origin of cadenza and its development in vocal music and instrumental music.Second, introduction of Vanhal’s life and his contributions to the music history,as well as analysis of three cadenza segments of Double Bass Concerto in D Major.Third, analysis of the organization and expression of the music style, and the design and application of performing skills in cadenza from the perspective of performance practice. |
