The translator served as a translator for an e-commerce enterprise based in Hangzhou,Zhejiang Province,from March to September,2021 and translated about 25 thousand Chinese characters to English.Upon graduation,the translator reflected on the translation project and summarized the strategies used in translating cross-border e-commerce materials under the"Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation"(CEA)Framework.In terms of comprehension,the translator believes that translators should comprehend business background and client purposes from a macro perspective and language patterns from a micro one.Regarding expression,the translator exemplifies problems of Chinglish,wrong collocation and long sentences with solutions,and adds a new strategy of adding emojis to titles and subtitles of videos with strong communicative purposes,in order to meet the interaction-and conversion-oriented features.As for adaptation,the translator summarizes the means of correcting errors in ST,adding logic connections,omitting unimportant explanations and adding rhetoric devices,so as to improve the readability of texts and attract more target audience.This report expects to provide some insights for translators and other employees engaged in the cross-border e-commerce industry. |
