In the creation of expressive language in Chinese oil painting, artists draw inspiration from real life, base on local culture and artistic spirit, and at the same time absorb the expressive techniques of Western modern art to explore the development of Chinese expressive language in a localized and nationalized way. This paper first discusses the definition and development of expressive language in Chinese oil painting.Taking Yuan Jing and He Xianchao as examples, this paper makes a comprehensive analysis from the aspects of theme, techniques, artistic language and emotional expression.Secondly, the author’s "Old Town·Old Residence" series of works as an example, combined with personal creation and practical experience. From different perspectives, this paper explores the theory and practice of the creation of "Old Town·Old Residence" series, analyzes and studies how to better integrate regional cultural characteristics in painting expression, and applies them to his own creation practice,so as to realize his own artistic creation purpose and value.Through continuous attempts and practices, the author enriched his painting language, organized objective objects into subjective visual elements in his works, reconstructed architectural scenes, reorganized color composition, and pursued personalized painting language to complete the creation of this theme. Finally,on this basis, from the perspective of creation practice, the author interprets and analyzes the series of works "Old Town·Old Residence",systematically discusses the author’s creation process, theoretically summarizes the expression language, painting concepts and artistic characteristics of the works, and thinks about the problems in the works. In addition, relevant materials, sketches, difficulties and solutions in creation are sorted out to explore their inspiration for later creation.
