| The ethics of human enhancement technology has aroused great concern in recent years,which is associated with the future of mankind.There are numerous studies about it internationally,while the translated works are still deficient in China.This report is based on Rethinking Human Enhancement:Social Enhancement and Emergent Technologies,an academic work on bioethics written by Laura Y.Cabrera,which involves the ethical issues of human enhancement technology and provides a new perspective for relevant studies.Its first chapter,an introduction to the book,is chosen as the source text,which represents the language style of the whole book.This report solves problems encountered in this E-C translation practice under the guidance of Adaptation Theory.The bioethics text involves philosophy and science,and its language is specialized,accurate and logical.This report analyzes the adaptation to language structure and contextual correlates at lexical,syntactic and textual level.At lexical level,considering the contextual correlates,the translator chooses contextual meaning of words.Different nominalized structures are converted into verbs.Four-character phrases in Chinese are used to translate the redundant information.At syntactic level,the translator adopts reorganization to adjust long sentences and conversion of the passive voice.At textual level,the translator adopts three cohesive markers of textual cohesion,namely conjunctions,anaphora and repetition,to make the logic of the target text clearer.Adaptation Theory provides a comprehensive perspective for this translation practice.By adjusting the language structure and analyzing the contextual correlates,the translator constantly makes choices and adaptations to all levels of the language to achieve accuracy and smoothness of the target text.It is hoped that this report could have some implications for application of Adaptation Theory in relevant studies. |
