The People’s Daily On The Rural Land Reform In The Early Years Of The PRC(1949-1952)

The founding of the PRC marked a new era in the history of China.In order to completely abolish the feudal land ownership system of the landlord class,the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided that from the winter of 1950 to the spring of 1953,the newly liberated areas of the country would launch mass reform of the land system in three batches.By the spring of 1953,all land reforms had been completed.Through the land reform,more than 300 million peasants throughout the country were given about 700 million mu of land and a large amount of production materials without compensation.This land reform movement,the largest and most thorough in China’s history,completely eliminated the land ownership system of the landlord class,the basis of the feudal system that had lasted for thousands of years in China,thus liberating the rural productive forces,consolidating the worker-peasant alliance and the people’s democratic dictatorship,and creating favorable conditions for the industrialization of the socialist country and the socialist transformation of agriculture.socialist transformation of agriculture.This change not only had a direct and positive impact on China in the early 1950 s,but also had a profound impact on the subsequent modernization of China.As the "mouthpiece" of the Party and the government,the People’s Daily,an organ of the Party Central Committee,published a large number of articles on the rural land reform movement,fully publicizing the guidelines and policies of the Communist Party of China and timely reporting the dynamics of land reform in the countryside,greatly stimulating the enthusiasm of the peasants for production and playing an outstanding propaganda role for the smooth implementation of the rural land reform.It played an excellent propaganda role for the successful implementation of rural land reform.This paper takes the propaganda reports on rural land reform published in the People’s Daily at the early stage of the founding of the PRC as the object of study,takes the relevant historical background as the guide,and uses Marxist theory as the guide to sort out the articles on the land reform movement published in the People’s Daily at the early stage of the founding of the PRC.On this basis,the internal logic and interaction between the rural land reform under the new Chinese discourse system and the construction of public opinion in People’s Daily are analyzed to reveal the internal mechanism of the propaganda role played by People’s Daily in the rural land reform and the effects achieved,hoping to provide historical reference for the current Party propaganda and rural revitalization work.
