In the 1980s,the writer Ge Fei came to prominence in the literary world with his pioneering writing.Shi Zhecun,as a writer of the New Sensation School, was once again taken seriously in the1980 s,and his works show similarities with Ge Fei in terms of their modernist qualities. In existing studies, the avant-garde Ge Fei and the Neo-Sensationalist Shi Zhecun are generally treated separately, but both were deeply influenced by Freudian psychoanalysis and share many similarities in their ideological and artistic origins as well as their modernist qualities, such as the revelation of the human subconscious, the use of symbolic metaphors and stream-of-consciousness techniques. From the Neo-Sensibility School to the Vanguard School, and from Shi Zhecun to Ge Fei,they witnessed two peak periods in the development of Chinese modernist literature, which are worth exploring in depth. The writing of desire is one of the most distinctive features of their novels. The second part uses Freudian psychoanalysis as a reference point to analyse and compare the writing of human alienation, incest and the schizophrenic split between the "Self" and "Superego" in Ge Fei’s and Shi Zhecun’s novels. It is explained that Ge Fei’s and Shi Zhecun’s writing on desire is in fact a revelation of and resistance to the alienation of desire, and a search for the value of human nature through an analysis of the characters’ inner desires.Gefei and Shi Zhecun often borrow external forms of expression to highlight the desires of their characters, thus reinforcing the themes of their works. The third part uses dreams, plum rain and colours as angles of examination to analyse the duo’s use of symbols and metaphors to represent human desire and to tap into the inner subconscious, thus shedding light on the outward expression of human nature. There are three types of women in the writings of Ge Fei and Shi Zhecun: the “good” woman, the “urban girl” whose sense of self-life is beginning to awaken, and the “magical girl” who rebels against male discourse. The fourth section compares the psychological writing of women, and explains how the duo’s portrayal of the female psyche reveals the spiritual value of women. In the fifth part,a comparison is made between Ge Fei’s and Shi Zhecun’s writing on violence and death.Through a comparative analysis of the suddenness and absurdity of death in their fiction,it explores Ge Fei’s and Shi Zhecun’s reflections on survival and fate, revealing the dark side of human nature. Finally,it concludes that after half a century, the narratives of desire and death writing unique to the novels of the New Sensation School resurfaced in the literature of the 1980 s,as Ge Fei and Shi Zhecun’s concern for the times explored the nature of human nature and the consistent expression of a sense of self-search.
