During the Spring and Autumn Period(770-476 BC),the State of Zheng because of its location in the Central Plains,was repeatedly contended by overlords.However,during the reign of Zi Chan,the foreign invasion of Zheng eased and Zi Chan became a diplomatic model of "vassal dependence".The recent publications of Zi Chan and Liang Chen in Bamboo slips of Tsinghua have provided new evidence for the study of Zi Chan’s political reform,the establishment of auxiliary personnel and diplomatic philosophy,which is of great academic value for the correct analysis of his diplomacy.Taking the international relations theory as the tool and combining with the literature handed down from ancient times and unearthed documents,this paper comprehensively analyzes the ideal diplomatic model and foreign policy constructed by him.It can be found that both Zheng and himself were constrained by "rites" in theory,advocate the establishment of harmonious diplomatic relations between big countries with “small characters” and small countries with “big affairs”.In terms of practical reform and promotion of national strength,construction of a reasonable diplomatic implementation mechanism,and the formulation of polite,restrained and flexible diplomatic policies based on the national conditions,al shows that Zi Chan innovated Zheng’s traditional diplomatic mode and adapted to the peace situation between the states after the second disarmament.As for the issue that later generations have different opinions on his diplomatic achievements,through comparative analysis,we can find that compared with the diplomacy produced by the rulers of Zheng in previous dynasties,it is non-violent,non-confrontational and high frequency,but it is also the common choice of small states in central China after the second disarmament. |
