| Hou Han shu shuzheng is not only a representative work of Shen Qinhan,but also an important achievement in the study of Hou Han shu in the Qing Dynasty,which has not been studied in detail by previous authors.On the basis of exploring the writing and circulation of Hou Han shu shuzheng,this paper summarizes the stylistic and content characteristics of the book and discusses its influence in later times.Hou Han shu shuzheng has undergone a long and difficult process of being written,and its circulation has been quite tortuous.It was first written between the sixtieth year of the Qianlong reign and the first year of the Jiaqing reign,and was completed between the nineteenth year of the Jiaqing reign and the twenty-second year of the Jiaqing reign,a process that lasted about 20 years.Although it was extremely difficult for Shen Qinhan to consult books during the period of writing,he still overcame the difficulties and changed the manuscript of Hou Han shu shuzheng four times.After the book was completed,various manuscripts and copies were passed through many hands,and only in the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu was an engraved version released.At present,there are three manuscript copies,three copy copies and one engraved copy of the book in existence,of which only the engraved copy is widely circulated in the world.The inappropriate style of the engraved text has an adverse effect on the value of the whole book.In terms of text structure,the volume and entries are out of order,and the content is not divided into proper levels;in terms of cutting,the text is redundant,the notes are repetitive,and some quotations are unknown.Hou Han shu shuzheng is rich in content,its achievement of historical geography is outstanding,the tendency of Guwenjingxue is obvious,and the scope of citation is extensive;the shortcomings are that some of findings are inaccurate and the practical purpose is not shown enough.The book was not widely circulated before it was published,therefore,it failed to have a wide academic influence,and only interacted with the writing of Shen Qinhan’s Shu Jing zhu shuzheng.After the publication of the Hou Han shu shuzheng,the engraved text became an important documentary basis for Wang Xianqian’s Hou Han shu jijie and Lu Bi’s San Guo zhi jijie.As relayed by Hou Han shu jijie,the engraved book also played a role in Zhonghua Book Bureau’s proofreading of the biographical part of Hou Han shu.To this day,Hou Han shu shuzheng still plays an active role in academic research. |
