| Instead of simply translating words,travelogue translation concerns the transmission of aesthetic consciousness.Travelogues of scientific expedition cover a wide range of information,recording lots of scientific facts and showing high aesthetic value.Based on the features of the text,it was found that the most difficult part of the translation practice lies in how to analyze and convey the aesthetic pleasure of the original work,so as to embody the aesthetic value and styles of travelogue in the target text.This paper discusses how the theory of translation aesthetics guides the translation of Chapter 3 of On the Trail of Ancient Man as a case of the translation of travelogue;it guides the translation from the aspects of formal system and non-formal system and helps the target language readers enjoy the same aesthetic feelings as the source language readers through corresponding translation methods.For formal system,this paper analyzes the language features of the travelogue from the perspective of sound,words and sentences,focusing on the translation of onomatopoetic words,refined words,and sentence structures such as antithesis and parallelism.While being faithful to the language style of the original work,the translation aims to convey the beauty of the source language;For non-formal system,this paper explores the embedded beauty of the original work from the aspect of natural landscape.Certain translation strategies are adopted to enable the target readers to appreciate the beauty of the nature and generate aesthetic resonance with the author in their mind.It has been proved that translation aesthetics can help translators better solve the difficult points in translation practice.To fully display the beauty of original text in the target text,translators should never cease to improve their bilingual competence and aesthetic appreciation,and apprehend the overall language features of the original text. |
