| Fifty Words for Rain is a novel written by Asha Lemmie,which describes a story about love,family,responsibility,identity,and finding hope at the most difficult times.Based on a large number of descriptions of beautiful scenery,living environment,and the exquisite psychological activity of Nori,it shows the process of how the author’s own feelings and the character’s emotions mingled,creating a unique artistic conception and atmosphere,and finally constituting the unique aesthetic effect of the novel.Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics theory mainly focuses on the aesthetic representation of literary translation,which has strong practical guidance for the novel translation practice.Guided by the aesthetics translation theory,the translation of this novel makes a deep analysis of two linguistic aesthetic frameworks: formal system and non-formal system,including the analysis from the phonetic,word,imagery,and emotional levels respectively based on the comprehension of the translation aesthetic object(TAO).In this process,the translator not only rebuilds the different characters,plots,and dialogues ideally but also makes careful consideration of word choice in order to represent the aesthetic experience of the original text.Meanwhile,the aesthetic tendencies,characters,and styles also be represented in their entirety.This translation report focuses on the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process through various case studies,as well as how the translator solved these problems and the translation methods used in the translation process.Through the analyses of the characters of the original text and the possibility of applying aesthetic translation theory to the novel translation,the author makes a brief description of three main translation parts: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation,and then introduce the aesthetic representation process through the application of aesthetic translation theory.In the aspect of the theory application,the author acquired the aesthetic information through formal-system and nonformal-system,and then captured the poetry of this novel in all their beautiful phonetics,words,and images through dynamic imitation,recast and rewrite.This translation practice report improved the aesthetic quality and translation ability of the author by the exploration of aesthetic representation from different levels and has provided a reference for the practice of novel translation at the aesthetic level. |
