| As international contacts multiply,growing demand for high-quality interpretation is creating the conditions for the emergence of conference interpreting,a professional,highly technical work.As a bridge between the speakers and the listeners,interpreters at the press conference are playing a vital role.At the same time,conference interpreting becomes challenging because the content is increasingly professional and complicated and also includes some Chinese-specific expressions.Chinese-specific expressions as a unique linguistic phenomenon rooted in the culture of one nation are hard to find an equivalent expression with the same or similar cultural connotation in the target language.Thus,it does not only bother student interpreters or language learners during daily practices but also some professional experts while working.With the thought of trying to find some solutions to this problem,the author tries to conclude some coping strategies towards conference interpreting especially Chinese-specific expressions by building on her research and investigation under the guidance of the interpretive theory.The invention of the interpretive theory established a theoretical foundation for interpreting practice and provided a resort for interpreters to apply in tacking with Chinese specific expressions,that is de-verbalization,which means translation for meaning rather for word.Based on the mock interpreting of press conference of premier Li Keqiang in 2019,the purpose of this paper is to analyze the features,influencing factors and difficult parts in the linguistic and non-linguistic level of the conference interpreting as well as the Chinese-specific expression involving and finally explore seven pragmatic strategies that can be used in real interpreting case under the guidance of the interpretive theory.Those seven strategies are equivalent expressions and literal interpretation;explanation;paraphrasing;omission;supplementation;conversion and restructuring.The author hopes that it will not only be beneficial to improve the interpreter’s performance of conference interpreting but ensuring the effectiveness and smoothness of the communication during the process of the press conference. |
