| Based on belief in a just world theory and life history theory,this study reveals the relationship between the Dark Triad and gratitude,and deeply explores the internal influence mechanism of the Dark Triad on gratitude.First,clarify the impact of the Dark Triad on gratitude,and reveal the gender differences between the Dark Triad and gratitude.Secondly,explore the mediating role of belief in a just world and life history strategy between the Dark Triad and gratitude,and the internal mechanism of the Dark Triad on gratitude,and explore the unique roles of Machiavellianism,psychopathy and narcissism respectively.Study 1: Objective: To explore the current situation of the Dark Triad and gratitude among college students,as well as the mediating role of life history strategy.Methods: 1,180 college students were recruited.College students were investigated adopting Machiavellian Personality Scale(MPS),the Levenson Self-Report Psychopathy Scale(LSRP),Narcissistic Personality Inventory(NPI),Mini-K,the Gratitude Questionnaire-6(GQ-6).Result:(1)Among college students,psychopathy and Machiavellianism were significantly negatively correlated with life history strategy and gratitude.Life history strategy was positively correlated with gratitude.(2)Psychopathy,narcissism and Machiavellianism of boys were higher than those of girls.The scores of gratitude and life history strategy of boys were significantly lower than those of girls.(3)Life history strategy played a complete mediating role between the Dark Triad(except narcissism)and gratitude(Machiavellianism: β=-0.09,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.13,-0.05];Psychopathy: β=-0.21,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.26,-0.17]).Study 2: Objective: Through longitudinal design,the mediation model of college students in Study 1 was verified.Methods: A total of 371 college students were selected to participate in the 10-months longitudinal study to verify the mediation model.Measures were the same as measures in study 1.Result:(1)Crosslagged regression analysis showed that after controlling T1 gratitude,T1 Machiavellianism had a significant predictive effect on T2 gratitude(β=-0.13,p<0.01),T1 psychopathy significantly predicted T2 gratitude(β=-0.27,p<0.01).(2)Hierarchical regression analysis and Bootstrap method showed that T1 life history strategy played a mediating role between T1 Machiavellianism and T2 gratitude(β=-0.03,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.06,-0.01]),the mediation effect value was 21.43%;T2 life history strategy played a mediating role between T1 Machiavellianism and T2gratitude(β=-0.10,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.17,-0.07]),the mediation effect value was58.82%;T1 life history strategy played a mediating role between T1 psychopathy and T2 gratitude(β=-0.04,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.09,-0.01]),and the mediation effect value was 13.79%;T2 life history strategy played a mediating role between T1 psychopathy and T2 gratitude(β=0.07,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.14,-0.01]),and the mediation effect value was 29.17%.Study 3: Objective: To explore the relationship between the Dark Triad and gratitude,and verify the mediating role of life history strategy among middle school students.From the perspective of belief in a just world theory,combined with life history theory,this study explores the internal mechanism of the Dark Triad and on gratitude,and the chain mediating role of belief in a just world and life history strategy between the Dark Triad on gratitude.Methods: 734 middle school students were recruited.Middle school students were investigated adopting Short Dark Triad(SD3),Mini-K,Adolescent Gratitude Scale(AGS)and Belief in a Just World scale(BJWS).Result:(1)Among middle school students,psychopathy and Machiavellianism were significantly negatively correlated with belief in a just world,general belief in a just world,personal belief in a just world,life history strategy and gratitude;Narcissism was negatively correlated with general belief in a just world and gratitude;Belief in a just world,general belief in a just world and personal belief in a just world were positively correlated with life history strategy and gratitude;Life history strategy was positively correlated with gratitude.(2)The scores of dark personality,psychopathy,narcissism and Machiavellianism of boys were higher than those of girls;The scores of gratitude and life history strategy of boys were significantly lower than those of girls.(3)Life history strategy played a mediating role between the Dark Triad(except narcissism)and gratitude(Machiavellianism: β=-0.06,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.11,-0.01];Psychopathy: β=-0.11,p<0.05,95%CI[-0.15,-0.07]).(4)Belief in a just world and life history strategy had a chain mediating effect between Machiavellianism and gratitude.The total mediating effect was-0.07,accounting for 50.00% of the total effect;Belief in a just world and life history strategy had a chain mediating effect between psychopathy and gratitude.The total mediating effect was-0.18,accounting for 36.00% of the total effect.Conclusion:(1)Among Chinese students,psychopathy and Machiavellianism are negatively correlated with gratitude,and psychopathy and Machiavellianism are an important factor to a lower gratitude;(2)Among middle school students and college students,gratitude of girls is higher than boys,girls adopt more slow life history strategy,boys adopt fast life history strategy,while Psychopathy,narcissism and Machiavellianism of boys were higher than those of girls;(3)Among middle school students and college students,psychopathy and Machiavellianism can affect gratitude through the mediating role of life history strategy;(4)Among middle school students,psychopathy and Machiavellianism can affect gratitude through the chain mediating role of belief in a just world and life history strategy. |
