Middlebury’s Summer Language Schools is an all-immersed Summer foreign Language school set up by Middlebury College in the United States.Currently,there are 10 kinds of Summer Language Schools including Chinese,French,Arabic and so on.“Mingde Mode” refers to the teaching and management mode adopted by the Chinese Summer School.Systematic research on Mingde Model can not only improve its teaching and management level,and can enrich the subject theory and guide the teaching practice of TCSOL.This paper takes the teaching of Harvard Beijing Academy(HBA)as the case study object,conducting a research on the short-term intensive Chinese teaching under the Mingde mode.The research mainly includes two parts.The first part,comprehensively use the methods of case study and case analysis,teaching video text transfer and participatory observation,qualitatively studied the Chinese teaching of HBA,and the content mainly includes the following three aspects.Firstly,this paper comprehensively expounds and analyzes the teaching situation of HBA under the Mingde Mode from three aspects of teaching preparation,implementation and evaluation.Secondly,this paper takes the elements covered by "Teaching Chinese as a Second Language" as the theoretical framework,systematically analyzed the scientific nature of teaching of HBA from three aspects of teaching concept,teaching design and teaching operation,teaching management.Thirdly,this paper discusses the deficiency of HBA’s teaching,and and put forward the corresponding improvement strategies from three aspects of teaching preparation,implementation and evaluation.In the second part,from the three aspects of "Teaching","Teaching Management",and "Conditions for Effective Implementation of Teaching and Teaching Management",this paper comprehensively analyzes the enlightenment of Chinese teaching under the Mingde mode to TCSOL.The innovation and research value of this paper is that it comprehensively applying methods of case study,teaching video transcripts and participatory observation,makes a systematic empirical investigation and analysis of Chinese teaching under the Mingde mode from the perspective of teaching development.The analysis and discussion on the internal rationale,shortcomings and improvement strategies of Chinese teaching under the Mingde model,can not only guide the development of Chinese teaching program under this mode,but also meets the theoretical and practical needs of the development of TCSOL.
