In today’s society, the importance of father’s role in the family has been paid much attention by society and academic circles. With the development of society, the phenomenon of father absence is more and more emerging in different families. The absence of father role is detrimental to the physical and mental development of children. For women, fatherhood is particularly important for their psychological development. The absence of fathers in childhood has negative effects on women’s cognitive development, personality development and intimate relationship. This paper focuses on the influence of absent fathers in childhood on adult female intimate relationships, and tries to explore the unconscious roots behind this relationship. In this background, this article on the impact of childhood father absence on adult female psychological development research, and based on the research on the effects of the comb for adult female intimate relations, found about childhood father absence on studies of the effects of female adult intimate relationships, more for the quantitative study through the questionnaire survey and so on,and less what deep psychological cause such phenomenon is discussed. The psychoanalytic theory of the unconscious emphasizes the influence of the individual unconscious on the external behavior, which is a discussion of the individual’s deep psychological level.Based on this, this paper further clarifies the relevant theories of unconsciousness, and refocuses on the influence of paternal absence on adult female intimate relationship from this perspective, with a view to using the research method of unconsciousness perspective to analyze actual cases. In the case analysis and comparison section, this paper chooses two cases.Case one is a case of the author’s consulting practice, citing the key materials of the first10 consultations for analysis.Case two is an interview case in American ethnographic research, and the key content is extracted for in-depth analysis. Both cases involved two adult women who experienced the absence of a father as a child and exposed to varying degrees of problems in their intimate relationships.Through the comparative analysis from the perspective of unconsciousness, starting from the analysis of the two opposites of unconsciousness and consciousness,we find the similarity of the unconsciousness root causes behind these problems, and it is related to the absence of father. The unconscious root of paternal absence has the same effect on intimate relationships and is indirectly reflected in other interpersonal relationships.Through case analysis and comparison from the perspective of unconsciousness, the similarities and differences between the two are summarized based on the results of case analysis. The commonness is reflected in the fact that the absence of father in childhood is both the father’s physical and psychological double absence;Intimate relationship and other interpersonal problems are manifested in dependent relationship, inability to maintain relationship, external attribution of relationship failure, etc.Mate preference manifests as infatuation with mature men.Differences are reflected in the differences in individual emotional expression and values under different cultural backgrounds,as well as the influence of individual differences and different personalities of fathers.Based on the results of the case study and the discussion of related research, this paper concludes that the unconscious causes of intimate relationship problems in adult women with absent fathers in childhood are basically the same, and are also reflected in other interpersonal problems.First,at the unconscious level, paternity and the need for security are manifested as attachment to mature men, reliance on intimate relationships and other relationships.Secondly, the unconscious resentment towards the father is manifested by the external attribution model of the relationship failure towards the father.Third, the absence of paternity at the unconscious level is manifested by a lack of self-reflection and self-centeredness in relationships.By comparing with the case of Chinese and western, not only see the individual under different cultural background on his father’s absence of unconscious roots of consistency, also from the side reflect the individual values under different culture, emotional expression of the similarities and differences, and put forward further perfecting the father absence of cross-cultural research point of view,in order to better use of western theory to Chinese reality.
