Fluency,as an indispensable dimension in multi-dimensional analysis of second language, has always been an important standard for researchers at home and abroad in the field of applied linguistics and second language acquisition to measure second language performance. The non-fluent phenomenon stands in contrast to the fluent phenomenon. This study uses the contrastive interlanguage analysis to analyze the non-fluent phenomenon, especially the non-fluent pauses of second language learners at intermediate and advanced levels through measurement of fluency including temporal variables and performance variables. The study aims to reveal the features of non-fluent pauses in spoken Chinese by second language learners with intermediate and advanced Chinese proficiency. At the same time, this study also studies the features and similarities and differences of Chinese second language learners with different language levels in non-fluent pauses.Additionally, this study also uses the relevant data of nonfluent phenomena of Chinese native speakers as baseline data to compare the nonfluent phenomena of Chinese second language learners at intermediate and advanced levels with Chinese native speakers.Meanwhile,it explores the similarities and differences of non-fluent phenomena between Chinese second language learners and Chinese native speakers. In this study, through the combination of qualitative research and quantitative research, with the help of the data collection and analysis of the spoken monologue corpus of Chinese second language learners and Chinese native speakers,it shows a significant correlation between the three temporal variables of fluency. From the group data of Chinese second language learners, the advanced corpus is better than the intermediate in terms of fluency performance. There exists some significant differences between the pause frequencies of two groups of data.In addition, compared with native Chinese speakers,Chinese second language learners have a slower speaking rate, higher pause frequency and shorter average length of speech. And there are significant differences in the three data between the two groups of subjects.Chinese native speakers can adjust the speed of speech and non-fluent pauses in time-limited oral tasks, while Chinese second language learners do not have this ability.
