With the continuous development of middle school English teaching,English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education emphasizes the cultivation of students’ English comprehensive application ability.As one of the basic skills of listening,speaking,reading and writing,English writing is an important embodiment of English comprehensive application ability and plays an crucial role in English teaching.However,the current effect of English writing teaching in senior high school is unsatisfactory.Therefore,the most urgent task at the moment is to improve the effect of English writing teaching in senior high school.Based on the input hypothesis,output hypothesis and schema theory,this study attempts to apply the narrow reading strategy proposed by American linguist Stephen Krashen in 1981 to senior high school English writing teaching.It aims to answer the following two questions:Question 1: Can the application of narrow reading strategy in senior high school English writing teaching reduce students’ English writing anxiety?Question 2: Can the application of narrow reading strategy in senior high school English writing teaching improve students’ English writing ability?This experiment was from September 2020 to December 2020,which lasted for four months.The subjects of the experiment were 80 students from two classes of grade two in a senior high school.During the 16-week experiment,one class was experimental class that adopted a teaching mode combining narrow reading strategy with English writing teaching,the other was control class that followed the traditional English writing teaching mode.The instruments included questionnaire,test and interview.Experimental data of questionnaire and test were analyzed by SPSS19.0 software.Through the analysis and discussion of the experimental data,the results show that students’ writing anxiety is alleviated and their writing ability is improved.Therefore,it is feasible to apply narrow reading strategy to senior high school English writing teaching.What’s more,several teaching implications are also presented in this study.Finally,the limitations of this study and suggestions for further studies are pointed out in the paper.
