Research On Luo Ruhuai’s Collection Of Lvyi Thatched Cottage

Luo Ruhuai was a famous scholar in Huxiang area in the late Qing Dynasty.He made great achievements in Confucian classics,literature and calligraphy,and was praised by the contemporary characters in Huxiang.His writings are rich,up to 24.Among them,Lvyi Caotang anthology has various styles and rich contents,which can be studied in many aspects,including the contribution of Jingxue,Huxiang customs and cultural preservation,the views of social governance and literary theory.First of all,the collected works of Lvyi Caotang anthology shows Luo Ruhuai’s academic thought of Confucian classics,which shows that Luo Ruhuai has great originality in exegesis and textual research.It concludes that Luo Ruhuai’s study of Confucian classics is good at quoting from other sources,distinguishing the sound and meaning in the interpretation of Chinese characters,investigating the root in the textual research,and paying attention to the theory of philology.In addition,Luo Ruhuai can abandon the academic views of the Han and Song dynasties.He thinks that the academic relationship between the Han and Song Dynasties is mutual assistance,and he has a tolerant attitude towards the academic as a scholarSecondly,it can be seen from the collection of Lvyi Caotang anthology that Luo Ruhuai has a deep understanding of the local customs of Hunan,and he has made great contributions to the preservation of local culture.On the one hand,Luo Ruhuai has many articles about the social customs in Huxiang area.From the folk rituals he saw,he felt two major drawbacks,which can be summarized into two points:extravagance and overpopulation.Accordingly,Luo Ruhuai also put forward the idea of improving social customs.His ideas include late marriage and childbirth to reduce the population,respecting people’s desire to protect people’s livelihood and so on.On the other hand,what he saw and felt about the social outlook was also part of the historical materials he participated in compiling,and he also collected local literature and compiled it as Hunan Wenzheng,which attached great importance to the preservation of local culture.Thirdly,the collection of Lvyi Caotang anthology reflects many social governance problems in Hunan.Luo Ruhuai saw all kinds of natural and man-made disasters in social life,including bandits,tobacco damage and agricultural losses caused by natural disasters.Therefore,he directly or indirectly participated in social activities,or personally,or wrote to officials,and actively participated in ruling the world.He expressed strong support for the policies of banning tobacco,accumulating grain for famine,Baojia and tuanlian,and showed his strong sense of responsibility for the society.Finally,the literary theory in Lvyi Caotang anthology emphasizes function.First of all,Luo Ruhuai,based on his own practice of compiling anthologies and poetry anthologies,directly put forward the idea that anthologies should be used for people.Secondly,when he talked about the complexity and simplicity of the article,he thought that it was not necessary for the article to be written in terms of righteousness and law.In addition,in the view of style,he also thinks that the article should express the intention,be used for people,and should not be confined to a certain style.
