The Study On The Heroic Growth Narrative Of Oscar Sports Films In The 21^st Century

Film,as the "seventh art",integrating architecture,music,painting,sculpture,poetry and dance,has been an important sociocultural product and cultural media since the 19th century.Sports movies since their birth,with sports as their narrative motifs,have been favored and pursued by the majority of movie fans have also won the favor of mainstream film awards including the Academy Award for their unique artistic charm and narrative techniques.In the 21st century,sports movies have been trying to make breakthroughs in genre and tell stories about sports,heroes and growth based on the Heroic Growth Narrative with the audio-visual language of art.In this paper,15 sports films nominated for various Academy Awards in the 21st century are selected as the research objects.Joseph Campbell’s "Hero’s Journey"theory is taken as the basic framework of text analysis and the heroic growth narrative used in these 15 films is analyzed and summarized.First of all,through the analysis of the narrative content,this chapter summarizes the heroic growth narrative plot setting characteristics of the 15 sports movies.Secondly,according to extend from"Hero’s Journey" theory,which is the transformation of hero theory,using the ten dimensions of heroic transformation of the 15 sports films analyzes their main characters,summarizes their common characteristics and makes a conclusion that the characters in 21st century Hollywood movie is shaped by three different types of sports heroes.Through the analysis of the narrative content of the film in the above two chapters and combining with the reality,this chapter discusses the inheritance and change of the traditional value of "American Dream" in the sports films of the 21st century,as well as the alternative heroism shown by the heroes in the contemporary sports films.Thirdly,this chapter analyzes the 15 films from three dimensions of narrative perspective,narrative structure and narrative montage to summarize the techniques used in the narrative of the films.Finally,this chapter will summarize the inspiration of Oscar sports films to domestic sports films from the perspective of the narrative value of hero growth,and provide reference for domestic film creators to promote the development of domestic sports films and world sports films.
