| As an outstanding representative of Polish writers after World War Ⅱ,Wislawa Szymborska(1923-2012)won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996 for her careful consideration of forms and changes in her poetic writings. In her works,Szymborska preferred to adopt an aesthetic method of "Lifting heaviness as lightness",which is embodied in the calmness in her emotional expression, the rigor of using words, and the writing techniques of irony in her poetry.Furthermore, ingenious symbols and metaphors were selected to make the poems lighter yet without losing its profound connotations.Facing the dilemmas of individual and collective, man and woman,as well as human and nature,Szymborska carried out a poetic rebellion with a calm intellectual mind.First of all,as a Polish who has experienced World War II,the Civil War and the totalitarian ruling under the Soviet Union,Szymborska, with her keen eyes, captured the underling crisis hidden beneath the social and historical changes:the contradictions between the individual and the collective, between sacred sublimity and daily life.Meanwhile,as a representative of the female poet in the postwar Polish literary,Szymborska did not narrowly express the duality and criticize the patriarchal society from the perspective of women.Raise it to the common situation that human beings encountered in order to transcend gender dichotomy. In addition, the relationship between man and nature,as well as the ultimate concern and value conversion problem are often appear in poets’ writings and then formed an unique philosophical way of thinking. The rebellious nature of Szymborska’s poetry is closely related to skepticism philosophy. The limitations of knowledge, the various possibilities, and the suspended judgment shown in her poems are in the same line with the spirit of Western skepticism.Meanwhile,as an Eastern European with a long tradition of Catholic, her way of thinking also reflected the unique ideas of Eastern European intellectuals. So,between the utter suspicion, the rebellion and the firm belief,Szymborska explored a moderate and positive path. This article will begin with the integrate analysis of poetic-aesthetic characteristics of Szymborska and the Polish socio-historical and cultural background after World War Ⅱ.Then,it will analyze the rebellious characteristics of her poems from three aspects:human and society, man and woman, human and nature. Finally, after tracing back to the philosophical origins both Eastern and Western,by which produced the characteristics of her poetry, this article tries to complete the in-depth analysis of the poetry of Wislawa Szymborska. |
