A Study Of Women’s Liberation In Guangdong During The Period Of The Republic Of China (1919-1949)

Since the Republic of China,Guangdong women’s liberation has presented different characteristics in different historical stages.The imbalance of regional development between urban and rural areas makes the liberation of Guangdong women not synchronized,and there is a huge difference.During the period of the Republic of China,different political forces governed Guangdong and they confronted each other in Guangdong,which also made the issue of women’s liberation in Guangdong greatly affected by political forces.In the construction of women’s liberation by the other,the discipline of women is also embodied.In the context of women being disciplined,we should explore the voice of Guangdong women and their response to discipline.Since the May Fourth Movement,Guangzhou women experienced a short period of "human" liberation.With the development of the National Revolution,the issue of women’s liberation began to be placed in the context of the revolution and became a subsidiary issue of the revolution.After that,the Kuomintang and the Communist Party as well as the Japanese Puppet Government during the Anti-Japanese War projected their own political ideas and the needs of social to the issue of women’s liberation,which was the precondition for the realization of the liberation of women.That is to say,the issue of women’s liberation is subordinate to its political goals and becomes a means for all parties to win over women and mobilize women to achieve their political goals.In addition,there is a huge development gap between cities,such as Guangzhou,and remote towns and mountainous areas.The development difference between urban and rural areas has a profound impact on women’s liberation.Different from Guangzhou,the development of women’s liberation in the remote villages and towns is obviously much more backward.The development of women’s liberation in remote towns depend on political forces and political mobilization.At the same time,conservative forces are stronger in remote villages.Therefore,the liberation of rural women shows the coexistence of conservatism and liberation.Moreover,the participation of political forces and the absence of rural women make the issue of rural women’s liberation more complex.Finally,the strategy of female liberation of all political forces takes the realization of political goals as the guarantee and premise of female liberation.In other words,if women want to be liberated,they must assume the responsibilities from the country and the society.In this strategy of female liberation,the discipline of women came into being.Women have taken different choices and actions when they faced the discipline.We can get a deep understand of the complexity of women’s liberation in modern Guangdong by analyzing their attitudes and actions in dealing with discipline and their understanding of self-liberation.
