Abstract/Summary:
Objection: This study was to observe the efficacy of acupoint massage based on theory of Shen Ming in Chinese medicine combined with cognitive therapy on cognitive impairment in patients with stroke. At the same time,we examined the level of homocysteine(Hcy)and amyloid-β 1-42(Aβ1-42)in blood of these patients.Further,we analysed the correlation between Mini-mental State Examination(MMSE)and blood indicators,Hcy and Aβ1-42 respectively, the montreal cognitive assessment scale(Mo CA)analysed as well. Methods: Patients with post-stroke cognitive impairment(PSCI)were randomly divided into observation group and control group with 33 cases in each group. In observation group, patients were given regular cognitive therapy and massage on Shen Men,Tai Xi and Bai Hui acupoints for 12 weeks. However, patients in control group were only administrated regular cognitive therapy. The scores of MMSE,Mo CA and activities of daily living(ADL)scale and levels of blood Hcy and Aβ1-42 were compared before and after treatment.Results:(1)The scores of MMSE and Mo CA were significantly increased compared with those before treatment meanwhile the scores of ADL scale and levels of Hcy and Aβ1-42 were significantly decreased in both groups(P<0.05).(2)In addition, observation group acquired higher MMSE and Mo CA scores and lower levels of Hcy and Aβ1-42 compared with control group after treatment(P<0.05).But there was no significantly difference between two groups in the scores of ADL scale(P>0.05).(3)The MMSE score was negatively correlated with the level of Aβ1-42 after treatment(P<0.05),but not before treatment(P>0.05).Moreover,Pooled data obtained before and after treatment showed a negative correlation between MMSE score and Aβ1-42concentration(P<0.05).(4)There was a significant negative correlation between the scale of Mo CA and the Aβ1-42 concentration(P<0.05),but no correlation between scale of Mo CA and Hcy concentration(P>0.05).Conclusion: Acupoint massage based on theory of Shen Ming in Chinese medicine combined with cognitive therapy effectively ameliorated cognitive deficits of patients with PSCI,and the effect was better than that of single regular cognitive therapy.Besides,it is benefit to improve patients’ ability of daily living activities and downregulate the expression of blood Hcy and Aβ1-42.In PSCI patients, the scores of MMSE and Mo CA were significantly negatively correlated with Aβ1-42 concentration in blood.Because of the correlation between Aβ1-42 and cognitive function in PSCI,the level of Aβ1-42 in blood would be used as an objective indicator of cognitive function in patients with PSCI.
