| Internet Addiction Disorder(IAD)refers to impulsive and uncontrollable online behavior without the influence of addictive substances, characterized by significant social and psychological impairments in function due to excessive use of the Internet.Children and adolescents’ s nervous system and psychological functions are not yet mature and they are easily attracted by novel and interesting online games, immerse themselves in games, and lose control, leading to internet gaming addiction. The family environment is key to children’s socialization, and parents are their first teachers.Studies have shown that parental neglect in childhood is positively correlated with adolescent internet gaming disorder. The mechanism of parental neglect and Children and adolescents internet gaming addiction is still under exploration in existing research.Indirect research suggests that psychological needs for internet satisfaction are related to adolescent internet gaming while other studies suggest that stress events experienced in childhood, such as parental abuse and neglect, can affect the choice of life history strategies in children, and some studies found it can directly impact on addictive behavior. Therefore, this study mainly explores the influence mechanism of parental neglect on Children and adolescents internet gaming addiction and its intervention.Study 1 applied the "Parental Neglect Scale," "Slow Life History strategies Scale," "Psychological Need for Internet Satisfaction Scale," and "Internet Gaming Addiction Scale" as measurement tools to explore parental neglect, slow life history strategies, psychological needs for internet satisfaction, and internet gaming addiction among students in five schools in Wuhan(two primary schools and two high schools, and one junior high school),as well as junior high school students from a school in Jingmen and high school students from Jingzhou.Data analysis were performed using SPSS25.0.The results showed that the proportion of Internet gaming addiction in junior high school students was significantly higher than that in primary school students. Therefore,in study2,12 students were selected from study 1 based on their scores in internet gaming addiction and psychological needs for internet satisfaction(the top 10%)and were randomly divided into an experimental group of six students and a control group of seven students. The experimental group was conducted eight sessions of group counseling intervention(60 minutes each time, twice a week for 4 weeks),while the control group received no special treatment. The counseling design of this study aimed to reduce the internet gaming addiction by intervening in their psychological needs for internet satisfaction. The results showed that parental neglect positively predicted children and adolescents internet gaming addiction and psychological needs for internet satisfaction, and negatively predicted slow life history strategies.Slow life history strategies and psychological needs for internet satisfaction played a mediating role between parental neglect and adolescent internet gaming addiction, indicating that parental neglect affects children and adolescents internet gaming addiction through slow life history strategies and psychological needs for internet satisfaction.Study 1 provided a theoretical basis for the development of Study 2.The data from study 2 showed no significant differences between the experimental and control groups in each dimension of the pre-test.After the experimental group received group counseling, there were significant differences in the scores of psychological needs for internet satisfaction and internet gaming addiction between the pre-test and post-test,while there were no significant differences in the scores of parental neglect and slow life history strategies. There were no significant differences between the dimensions of the pre-test and post-test in the control group. The results of the study suggest that group counseling intervention can effectively reduce the internet gaming addiction of addicted students by intervening in their psychological needs for internet satisfaction. This study has accumulated successful experiences in reducing the degree of adolescent internet game addiction by designing a series of group counseling intervention programs. |
