| Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of s elf-management education based on protective motivation theory on s elf-management ability, dialysis knowledge level, clinically relevant bi ochemical indexes and peritonitis in patients with peritoneal dialysis, and to supply a reference for clinical practice. Methods: From the Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic,a tertiary hospital in Shenyang, eighty peritoneal dialysis patients were randomly divided into control group(n=40)and experimental group(n=40).The control group received traditional nursing care, while the experimental group was given self-management education based on the theory of protective motivation, which lasted for six months. After six months of intervention, the self-management skills scale, peritoneal dialysis knowledge questionnaire, clinically relevant biochemical indicators, and incidence of peritonitis were all employed to assess the effect.Results:Finally,37 patients in the experimental group and 37 patients in the control group completed the study.(1)In baseline data, the baseline data of age, occupation, primary disease, and age on dialysis were balanced and comparable, and the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).(2)In self-management ability, after six months of intervention,a statistically significant difference was observed between the experimental group and the control group in terms of total score and each dimension of self-management ability(P<0.05).(3)In the knowledge level, after six months of intervention, there were statistically significant differences in the knowledge level of peritoneal dialysis between the experimental group and the control group(P<0.05).(4)In clinically relevant biochemical indicators, after six months of intervention,a statistically significant difference was observed between the experimental group and the control group in terms of Hemoglobin(P<0.05),whereas no such differences were observed in serum albumin, serum calcium, serum phosphorus, serum creatinine, urea nitrogen(P>0.05).(5)In peritonitis, after six months of intervention, nobody had peritonitis in the experimental group, three people had peritonitis in the control group, and there were no statistically significant differences(P>0.05).Conclusion: The self-management education program based on the protective motivation theory for patients with peritoneal dialysis can significantly improve their self-management ability, peritoneal dialysis knowledge and hemoglobin levels, but it can’t improve the incidence of peritonitis or the clinical relevant biochemical indicators such as serum albumin, serum calcium, serum phosphorus, serum creatinine, urea nitrogen. |
