Objective:To investigate the differences of UVA and UVB exposure in eyes of different sex populations in 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China. To investigate the relationship between UV exposure and cataract disability. Methods:The UV eye exposure function model established by the research team was used to calculate the UV eye exposure data of the population in various provinces in China, and the UV eye exposure dose was further corrected according to altitude, outdoor activity time and per capita GDP.The second national sample survey on disabled persons was conducted to obtain the data on the incidence of cataract disability in each province. The calculated UV exposure data in the eyes of the population was correlated with the age-standardized cataract disability prevalence rate in each province and the cataract disability prevalence rate in the population aged 65 and above, and the relationship between the two was discussed.Results:1.Nationwide,the highest monthly average daily cumulative value of UVA exposure occurred in July in Heilongjiang Province, which was 346.921KJ/cm~2for males and374.650KJ/cm~2for females. The lowest values occurred in December in Heilongjiang,with8.831KJ/cm~2for men and 24.985KJ/cm~2for women. The highest monthly average cumulative value of UVB exposure occurred in June in Heilongjiang Province, with 9.904KJ/cm~2for males and 10.235KJ/cm~2for females. The lowest values occurred in December in Heilongjiang,with0.181KJ/cm~2for males and 0.482KJ/cm~2for females. The province with the highest annual cumulative value of UVA exposure was Hainan, which was 288.385KJ/cm~2for males and319.988KJ/cm~2for females. The lowest province is Xinjiang, with 209.101KJ/cm~2for men and237.745KJ/cm~2for women. The province with the lowest annual cumulative value of UVB exposure was Xinjiang, which was 5.627KJ/cm~2for males and 6.177KJ/cm~2for females. The province with the highest annual cumulative value of UVB exposure in male eye was Shandong(6.869KJ/cm~2).The province with the highest annual cumulative value of UVB eye exposure in female population was Hainan(8.045KJ/cm~2).2.After adjusting for outdoor activity time, altitude and per capita GDP,there was a significant positive correlation between UVA band and UVB band exposure and the incidence rate of standardized cataract disability and the incidence rate of cataract disability in people aged 65 and above(P<0.05).The correlation coefficients between the average annual UVA exposure and the incidence of standardized cataract disability were 0.613 for males and 0.656 for females. The correlation coefficients with the incidence of cataract disability were 0.621 in men and 0.687 in women aged 65 years and older. The correlation coefficients between the average annual UVB exposure and the incidence of standardized cataract disability were 0.633 for males and 0.703for females, respectively. The correlation coefficients with the incidence of cataract disability were 0.678 in males and 0.724 in females.Conclusions:1.There are seasonal differences in UV exposure in Chinese people’s eyes.In summer and autumn, people in northeast and North China had a high level of UV exposure. In spring and winter, people in southern regions had higher levels of eye UV exposure.Human eye UV exposure was higher in women than in men.2.There is a stronger correlation between UVB band and female eye UV exposure and the incidence of cataract disability.
