Purpose:Colorectal cancer(CRC)is one of the most common malignancies in the world.Superoxide dismutase(SOD)is a metalloenzyme that scavenges reactive oxygen species in the body and is commonly found in aerobic organisms. In this paper,we will explore the clinical value of superoxide dismutase for the early diagnosis of colorectal malignancies based on the basic national conditions in China and the search for a convenient, efficient and economical early screening index. Methods:A total of 129 patients with colorectal cancer and 133 patients with colorectal polyps were collected through the electronic medical record management system of Xi’an Central Hospital and the Rui Mei laboratory management system.Basic information such as age, gender, height, weight, diagnosis, past history, postoperative pathology and relevant clinical test data such as total superoxide dismutase(Total Superoxide dismutase,T-SOD),serum total cholesterol(Total cholesterol,TC)and carcinoembryonic antigen(Carcinoembryonic antigen,CEA)were collected. The differences in the levels of serum T-SOD in different stages of colorectal cancer were analysed using SPSS statistical software version 26.0.The AUC,cut-off values and the corresponding sensitivity and specificity of T-SOD and the combination of T-SOD with TC and CEA were determined according to the ROC curve, and its diagnostic value for colorectal cancer was analyzed.Results:1.Serum T-SOD expression. The T-SOD level in the colorectal cancer group(147.61±29.54)was lower than that in the polyp group(171.62±19.63),with a statistically significant difference(t=7.725,p<0.05).2.Serum T-SOD expression at different sites and different TNM stagesSerum T-SOD levels in rectal cancer(159.44±31.24)were significantly higher than those in right hemicolectomy(137.45±25.08)and left hemicolectomy(142.07±26.53),with statistically significant differences(F=7.846,P<0.05).Serum T-SOD decreased with increasing stage in TNM stage of colorectal cancer, with a statistically significant difference(F=6.736,P<0.05).3.Value of serum T-SOD and TC and CEA in the diagnosis of colorectal cancerBased on the results of binary logistic regression analysis,ROC curves were plotted for the clinical data of serum T-SOD,TC and CEA,and the corresponding serum T-SOD cut-off value was 151.5 with AUC=0.760,sensitivity and specificity of 66.7% and 85.0%,respectively.The combination of serum T-SOD and TC had an AUC=0.788,sensitivity of69.0% and specificity of 83.5%.The combination of the three indicators had an AUC=0.875,a sensitivity of 79.1% and a specificity of 86.5%.Conclusion:1.The serum T-SOD level of colorectal cancer patients decreased compared with that of the control group. As the pathological stage increased, the serum T-SOD level gradually decreased, suggesting that the decrease in serum T-SOD was associated with the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer.2.The serum T-SOD level of rectal cancer patients was higher than that of left hemicolectomy and right hemicolectomy, suggesting that the degree of decrease in serum T-SOD was related to the tumour site.3.The ROC curve suggests that the combination of T-SOD with TC and CEA is of value in the early screening of colorectal cancer.
