Clinical Observation On The Treatment Of Allergic Conjunctivitis With Damp-heat And Wind By Dispelling Wind,Clearing Heat And Removing Dampness

Objective: To observe the clinical effectiveness of the method of banishing wind,expelling heat,and expelling dampness in the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis with damp-heat and wind evidence,to investigate its mode of action,and to finally offer new approaches and concepts for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis in Chinese medicine.Methods: A random number table was used to randomly divide 64 patients(128 eyes)with allergic conjunctivitis(damp-heat with wind evidence)who met the diagnostic and inclusion criteria into treatment and control groups,with 32 cases(64 eyes)in each group.The treatment group received the traditional remedy of dispelling wind,removing dampness,and clearing heat,also known as "removing dampness soup," whereas the control group received eye drops containing the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride.Both groups treated them continuously for two cycles of treatment,each lasting seven days.The changes in symptoms,signs,and overall scores before and after therapy were compared between the two groups.Patients’ ocular signs,eye symptoms,and general health were observed at two time points—before and after treatment—and each score was meticulously recorded.To assess the clinical efficacy,all the data were statistically evaluated using SPSS25.0 software.Results:1.The total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P<0.05);2.Baseline comparison: There was no statistical difference in gender and age distribution between the two groups(P>0.05),and there was no statistical difference in eye symptoms and signs scores before treatment between the two groups(P>0.05);3.Comparison of main symptoms: The two groups had good curative effect in improving main symptoms including itchy eyes,tears,photophobia and foreign body sensation(P<0.05),and the treatment group was better than the control group in improving main symptoms(P<0.05).4.Comparison of physical signs: The two groups improved conjunctival congestion,increased secretion,conjunctival edema and corneal epithelial staining(P<0.05),but had no obvious effect on changes of upper(or lower)eyelid papilla,upper(or lower)eyelid follicles and corneal limbus(P>0.05).The treatment group was superior to the control group in improving conjunctival congestion,increased secretion,conjunctival edema and corneal epithelial staining(P<0.05)5.Comparison of secondary symptoms: The treatment group had good curative effect on secondary symptoms including fullness,sticky mouth,loose stool,fatigue,dry throat and no desire to drink(P<0.05),while the control group had no obvious improvement on various secondary symptoms(P>0.05),and the treatment group was superior to the control group in improving secondary symptoms(P<0.05).6.Total score of symptoms and signs: The difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P<0.05),that is,the treatment group was better than the control group in improving the overall condition of allergic conjunctivitis patients.Conclusion: The method of dispelling wind,clearing heat and removing dampness is superior to western medicine alone in treating allergic conjunctivitis of damp-heat and wind type.It can quickly eliminate the clinical symptoms of patients,effectively improve eye signs,shorten the treatment time,and the overall effect is ideal.Moreover,the representative prescription Chushi Decoction is safe in application,and patients have no obvious systemic adverse reactions,so it has good clinical application value.
