Abstract/Summary:
Objective:Compared with the normal conjunctiva tissues,to explore the differential expressions of Sox4 and epithelial mesenchymal transition(EMT)related proteins vimentin and E-cadherin in pterygium tissues, and then investigatingthe correlation between their differential expressions and the clinical characteristics of patients,so as to provide a new idea for the study of the pathogenesis of pterygium. Methods:The differential expressions of Sox4,Vimentin and E-Cadherin in 49 cases of pterygium and 23 cases of normal conjunctiva were detected by immunohistochemistry(SP method).SPSS25.0 was used to analyze the correlation between the differential expressions of Sox4,Vimentin and E-Cadherin in pterygium tissues and the correlation between the differential expressions of the above three proteins in pterygium tissues and the clinical characteristics of patients.Results:1.Compared with normal conjunctival tissues,Sox4 and Vimentin were mostly moderately positive and strongly positive in the epithelial layer of Pterygium tissues, and their high expression rates were 91.8%(P=0.000<0.001)and 81.6%(P=0.000<0.001)respectively;E-cadherin was mostly negative and weakly positive in the epithelial layer of Pterygium tissues, and its high expression rate was 18.4%(P=0.000<0.001);Their expression differences were statistically significant.2.Spearman correlation analysis showed that Sox4 was positively correlated with Vimentin expression(rs=0.353,P=0.013),E-cadherin was negatively correlated with vimentin expression(rs=-0.343,P=0.016),and Sox4 was negatively correlated with E-cadherin expression(rs=-0.312,P=0.029).3.The expression of Sox4,Vimentin and E-cadherin in pterygium tissues was not related to the patient’s gender, age and the grade of pterygium, and their differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion:1.There are differences in the expression of Sox4,Vimentin and E-cadherin between pterygium and normal conjunctival tissues, suggesting that they may play a role in the occurrence and development of pterygium.2.There is a correlation between the expression of Sox4,the marker proteins of EMT which are Vimentin and E-cadherin,suggesting that EMT is related to the occurrence and development of pterygium. It is speculated that Sox4 may induce the occurrence and development of pterygium by regulating EMT.
