| Low carbon agriculture is a correction of the drawbacks of traditional agricultural production models. With the promotion of the "dual carbon" goal, the necessity of developing low-carbon agriculture has been raised to a new height. In the14 th Five Year Plan and the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,it was clearly pointed out that taking a solid step towards low-carbon development and ensuring food security supply with lower agricultural carbon emission intensity is an important lever for China’s agricultural and rural development.Although the government has actively explored agricultural transformation, the high carbon emissions and high pollution agricultural production methods have not been fundamentally changed, and the carbon emissions generated in the agricultural production process still cannot be underestimated. As a low-carbon agricultural technology, straw returning technology not only avoids the air pollution problem caused by open-air incineration, but also effectively reduces the use of fertilizers. Therefore,it is of great significance to pay attention to the promotion of straw returning technology and study how to promote farmers’ adoption of straw returning technology for achieving the goal of reducing carbon emissions and increasing sinks in agriculture. In rural areas of China, the social relationships based on kinship, geography, and industry still influence farmers’ cognition and decision-making.The social network of farmers is not only the main channel for them to obtain market information, but also a main path for technology diffusion. It is necessary to study how to promote the adoption of straw returning technology by farmers through social networks and how to use social networks to promote agricultural technology promotion. In view of this, based on reading existing literature, this article conducted a field survey using the Jianghan Plain as the research area, and the impact of social networks on farmers’ subsequent adoption behavior of straw returning technology.Firstly, measure the social network, use factor analysis method to subdivide the social network of farmers into homogeneous networks and heterogeneous networks, and calculate the scores respectively. Finally, calculate the comprehensive score of social network.Secondly,a descriptive analysis of the current situation of farmers’ social networks and the adoption of straw returning technology was conducted to grasp the true situation of farmers’ adoption of straw returning technology and their willingness and degree of subsequent adoption of straw returning technology. Finally, using the Heckman two-stage model, using the comprehensive score of social networks as the proxy variable of the total social network,we empirically tested the impact of social networks on farmers’ straw returning technology adoption behavior, and substituted the homogeneous and heterogeneous networks subdivided by social networks into the model to explore the differences in the impact on farmers’ straw returning technology adoption behavior. In addition, this article further explores the impact of social networks on whether and to what extent farmers are willing to continue adopting straw returning technology after they adopt it.In order to verify the reliability of the empirical results, this paper uses the dual merged Tobit model to conduct a robustness test. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The adoption rate of straw returning technology by farmers has reached78.1%,and this part of farmers also have a high degree of adoption of straw returning technology, with 63.2% of farmers adopting more than 50% of the technology. In the follow-up adoption by farmers,54.9% are willing to continue to adopt the straw returning technology, and 67.6% are farmers with a follow-up adoption degree of more than 50%.(2)By comparing the straw returning technology adoption group and the non adoption group,it was found that the average total social network factor score of the adoption group was 9.585,while the average factor score of the non adoption group was 8.134;The mean score of homogeneity network factors in the adoption group was16.899,while the mean score of factors in the non adoption group was 14.753;The average score of heterogeneity network factors in the adoption group was-0.692,while the score of non adoption group factors was-1.167.The average score of adoption group factors was higher than that of non adoption group. It can be concluded that the more developed the social network of farmers, the easier it is to adopt the straw returning technology.By comparing the frequency of farmers’ interactions with homogeneous and heterogeneous networks,it can be concluded that farmers’ interactions with homogeneous networks are more frequent than those with heterogeneous networks.(3)Through Heckman model regression,it is found that the total social network has a significant positive impact on farmers’ adoption decisions on straw returning technology.Homogeneity networks have a significant positive impact on farmers’ decision to adopt straw returning technology.Heterogeneous networks have no significant impact on adoption behavior of straw returning technology.Among the control variables, education level, ease of use of technology, and government promotion have significant positive effects on the adoption decision of straw returning technology.Agricultural income ratio and household labor force have a negative impact on straw returning technology adoption decisions. However, agricultural income ratio, household labor force, and planting area have significant negative effects on the adoption of straw returning technology.(4)In the process of farmers’ subsequent adoption of straw returning technology, the total social network has a significant positive impact on farmers’ subsequent adoption, but has no impact on their willingness to adopt technology;Homogeneity networks have a positive impact on farmers’ adoption of subsequent straw returning technology;Heterogeneous networks have a significant negative correlation with subsequent adoption willingness, but have no impact on the degree of subsequent adoption. |
