Wujin pig is an excellent local breed in Yunnan.Iron supplementation can improve the iron nutritional status of weaned piglets. At present, the research on iron nutrition of Wujin piglets is rare.In this experiment, the effects of different iron content in diet on growth performance, apparent digestibility of nutrients and expression level of iron transport genes in intestine of Wujin pigs were investigated,in order to provide scientific basis for the addition and utilization of iron glycinate in Wujin pig feed.18 weaned piglets of similar age were randomly divided to three groups, with three replicates in each group and two piglets in each replicate. Each pig was raised in a separate cage, the trial period of 30 days.In control group was added 100 mg/kg iron(provided by iron glycinate)to the basal diet, the low iron group was fed with the basal diet, and the high iron group was added in 200 mg/kg iron(provided by iron glycinate)to the basal diet. The growth performance, the apparent digestibility of nutrients, the amount of intestinal Escherichia coli and lactic acid bacteria, serum antioxidant indexes, iron deposition level in viscera, and expression level of iron transport gene in intestine. The main results were as follows:1.Compared with the control group, the feed to weight ratio of piglets in the low iron group were significantly increased(P<0.05),while that in the high iron group were increased(P>0.05).Compared to the control group, the average daily gain of piglets in the low iron and high iron group showed a decreasing trend(P>0.05).2.The apparent digestibility of dry matter and crude fat in the low iron group and high iron group of Wujin piglets was significantly lower than that in the control group(P<0.05);The apparent digestibility of crude protein and phosphorus in the high iron group piglets was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The apparent iron digestibility of piglets in the low iron group decreased significantly(P<0.01),while the fecal iron excretion in the high iron group increased significantly(P<0.05).3.The serum GSH-Px activity of piglets in the low iron group was significantly decreased(P<0.05),while the serum MDA content and GSH-Px activity in the high iron group was increased(P>0.05).The dietary iron content had no significant effect on the amount of Escherichia coli and lactic acid bacteria in the Wujin piglets intestinal tract.(P>0.05).4.Compared with the control group, the iron content in the liver of the low iron group was significantly decreased(P<0.01),and the iron content in the spleen was significantly decreased(P<0.05).In the high iron group, the iron content in the spleen was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.05).And extremely significantly higher than that in the low iron group(P< 0.01),and the iron content in the liver was significantly higher than that in the low iron group(P< 0.05).5.Compared with the control group, the relative expression levels of FPN1 and Dcytb genes in the duodenum of Wujin piglets in the low iron group were significantly increased(P<0.01),and the relative expression level of Hp was significantly increased(P<0.05).The expression level of Dcytb in the high iron group was significantly decreased(P<0.05),and the expression level of FPN1 gene decreased significantly(P<0.01).Compared with the low iron group, the expression levels of DMT1,FPN1,Dcytb,and Hp genes in the duodenum of the high iron group were significantly reduced.(P<0.01).The results showed that the growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal iron absorption of weaned piglets fed with a low iron diet were decreased in Wujin pigs. The growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, and visceral iron deposition efficiency of piglets fed with a high iron diet decreased.High or low iron content in the diet would not conducive to the growth and development of Wujin piglets, laying the foundation for the study of iron nutrition in Wujin piglets.
