| With the intensification of global climate change, the frequency of meteorological disasters is accelerating, and the damage caused by meteorological disasters is increasing, posing a huge threat to agricultural production and farmers’ lives in the Poyang Lake Basin and its surrounding cities. The Poyang Lake Basin is an important agricultural production area in Jiangxi Province dominated by rice cultivation. The adaptive behavior of the rice farmers in the region is influenced by multiple factors when facing meteorological disasters. Therefore, studying the adaptive behavior of rice farmers in the Poyang Lake Basin to meteorological disasters, and exploring how to better cope with the impact of meteorological disasters on agricultural production, improve the production efficiency and risk resistance of rice farmers, and achieve steady agricultural development,is of great practical significance for formulating more scientific and reasonable policies and measures to ensure the important role of rice production in Jiangxi Province.Based on protection motivation theory, this article investigates the adaptive behavior of large-scale grain growers in the Poyang Lake Basin and surrounding cities.A field survey was conducted in the Poyang Lake Basin of Jiangxi Province, and a total of 445 valid questionnaires were collected to study the adaptive behavior of large-scale grain growers in the face of meteorological disasters.By constructing a structural equation model of the adaptive behavior of large-scale grain growers to meteorological disasters, the mediating effect analysis method was used to analyze the influence relationship of the observation variables under various latent variables in depth and to verify the mediating mechanism of meteorological disaster planning behavior on adaptive behavior. The empirical results show that there is a significant positive correlation among the risk perception, risk preference, and comprehensive application of meteorological disaster information of large-scale grain growers to meteorological disasters, and risk perception has a negative correlation with meteorological disaster planning behavior, while risk preference and the comprehensive application of meteorological disaster information have a positive correlation with meteorological disaster planning behavior. In addition, meteorological disaster planning behavior also has a positive correlation with meteorological disaster adaptive behavior.Based on the empirical results, several policy recommendations are proposed to the government for improving farmers’ ability to cope with meteorological disasters, including:Firstly, strengthening the dissemination and promotion of meteorological disaster information;secondly, improving agricultural insurance subsidy policies;and thirdly, enhancing the technical and managerial capabilities of large-scale grain growers. |
