| Purpose:Combining behavioral tests and questionnaires,puppy behavior was assessed using the calling test,the simulated family test,and the puppy test.Puppy raisers were grouped using the Five-Factor Inventory and the Discipline Style Questionnaire to investigate the correlation between puppy raiser personality and puppy behavior.The purpose of this study is to provide a reference base for screening puppy raisers’ families and to provide additional suggestions for puppy care to the raisers.Also,it can improve the overall quality of guide dog preparation dogs.Methods: 1.Establish behavioral tests.1)Calling test.To evaluate how distracted puppies are while they are facing people.2)Simulated family test.To evaluate the puppies’ level of familial literacy and attachment.3)Puppy Test.Five factors were used for this study to evaluate puppy temperament: range of exploration,anxiousness,startle reaction,interest in play,and obedience.2.Questionnaire.1)The NEO-FFI(Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory).It has 60 questions and measures five personality traits: neuroticism,extraversion,openness,friendliness,and responsibility.2)Discipline style questionnaire.To evaluate the puppy raiser’s discipline style,amount of time and effort expended,and discipline rating.3)Canine Behavioral Assessment and Research Questionnaire.For this study’s test validation,eight subscales were chosen.Behavioral tests were conducted at 6 and 11 months of age,respectively,and the results of the puppy raisers’ questionnaire were used to group the puppies and compare whether there were differences in the dogs for each variable.3.Statistical methods.The study was performed using SPSS version 26.0,and P<0.05 was used to indicate a statistically significant difference.Tests of variance included the chi-square test,one-way ANOVA test combined with post hoc analysis LSD test,Tamhane test,and Spearman correlation analysis.Result: 1.Relationship between the Big Five personality groupings of the puppy raisers and the behavior of 6-month-old puppies.1)Calling test.Significant differences(P<0.05)existed between puppy raisers with different friendliness scores in the length of call(S)and the number of distractions(S)of their puppies.2)Simulated family test.Puppy raisers with different extroversion scores differed in their puppies’ body contact scores(P<0.05).3)Puppy test.Puppy raisers with varying levels of openness differed significantly(P<0.05)in their puppies’ range of exploration scores.2.Relationship between puppy raisers’ discipline style grouping and 6-month-old puppy behavior.1)Simulated home test.There were significant differences in anxiety scores(P<0.05) between puppy raisers with different discipline style,and activity scores(P<0.05)among different amount of time and effort expended.2)Puppy test.Significant differences were found between puppy raisers with different discipline styles in the scores of nervousness and play interest(P<0.05),and among puppy raisers different amount of time and effort expended in the scores of nervousness and play interest(P<0.05).3.No statistically significant differences were found between the Big 5 personality grouping of the puppy raisers,the discipline style grouping,and the behavior of 11-month-old puppies(P>0.05).Conclusion: This study demonstrates that there is a correlation between the personality of puppy raisers and the behavior of puppies.The puppy raisers discipline style questionnaire has practical value and can be used to predict the behavior development of puppies and provide guidance suggestions for puppy raisers. |
