| The colostrum feeding of newborn calf has been studied very thorough, and practical application in the fields also have corresponding process, but the effect of female colostrum is still worth being further studied. So in this thesis,by comparing the effect of feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum on growth and development of newborn calves,we want to choose a better source of colostrum, improve calf passive immune success rate and reduce calf elimination rate.Holstein calves aged 0 to 2 months were used to study the effect of female colostrum(colostrum from biological mother)and mixed colostrum(colostrum from non-biological mother)on the growth and development of newborn calves. The experiment was divided into 4 experimental groups: group A and group B were fed with female colostrum, group C and group D were fed with mixed colostrum, group A and group C were female calves, and group B and group D were male calves, with 10 calves in each group.Experiment 1: The effect of feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum on serum protein of newborn calves.Calves in group A and group B were given 4L female colostrum within 30 min after birth, and calves in group C and group D were given 4L mixed colostrum within 30 min after birth. After feeding colostrum for 24 h,the serum was isolated from the root vein blood of the tail of calves. The serum protein content of calves was measured by a hand-held serum protein refractor. The results showed that feeding female colostrum was beneficial to the absorption of immunoglobulin, and the difference was significant(P < 0.05).In the same colostrum feeding condition, the gender difference of calves did not affect the absorption of immunoglobulin.Experiment 2: The effect of feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum on daily gain of newborn calves.Group A and group B were fed with female colostrum, while group C and group D were fed with mixed colostrum. In order to reduce experimental error, feeding of regular milk, feeding of calf milk replacer, feeding of pellet feed and growing environment of calves in experimental groups were kept the same. After weaning at 60 days of age,the weight of the calf was measured and the daily gain was calculated. The results showed that feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum had no significant effect on daily gain(P > 0.05).At the same time, when the same type of colostrum was fed,the gender of calves had a significant effect on the daily gain.Experiment 3: The effect of feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum on fecal score and incidence of diarrhea of newborn calves.Group A and group B were fed with female colostrum, while group C and group D were fed with mixed colostrum. In order to reduce experimental error, the feeding of regular milk, feeding of milk replacer, feeding of pellet feed and growing environment of calves in experimental groups were kept the same. The feces of the calves in the experimental group were observed and recorded within 60 days after birth. The results showed that feeding female colostrum and mixed colostrum had no significant effect on fecal score(P > 0.05).Feeding the same type of colostrum, the difference of genders had no significant effect on fecal score(P > 0.05).In terms of the incidence of diarrhea, the incidence of diarrhea in calves fed with female colostrum was significantly lower than that in calves fed with mixed colostrum.Feeding the same type of colostrum had little effect on the incidence of diarrhea. In conclusion, compared with feeding mixed colostrum, feeding female colostrum could increase the absorption rate of immunoglobulin and reduce the incidence of diarrhea of calves, but had no significant effect on daily gain of calves.Feeding the same type of colostrum had no significant effect on the absorption rate of immunoglobulin and diarrhea rate. |
