| China’s pork production accounts for more than 40% of the world’s total pork production, and it is the world’s largest producer and consumer of pork.Since 2000,due to economic growth and the raising of living standards, the demand for pork by Chinese residents has been increasing. In 2006,China became a net importer of pork and the largest importer of pork in the world in 2016.However,in recent years, food fraud occurs frequently in China, among which pork safety incidents occur frequently.Pork safety issues usually cover pork fraud, such as clenbuterol events,Jinhua dichlorvos ham incident and Shanghai Fuxi expired meat incident. The problem of pork fraud not only affects the health of consumers, but also affects residents’ confidence in pork consumption and affects the healthy development of China’s pork industry. In the context of economic globalization, pork fraud will also have an important impact on China’s pork imports and exports. Therefore, studying the current situation of pork fraud in China and the impact of pork fraud on China’s pork import trade is of great significance to promote the structural upgrading of the pork industry, design a reasonable pork import strategy, and adjust the structure of pork trade. However, the current research on pork fraud and pork import trade is still relatively rare, and this paper attempts to explore in this field. This paper firstly combs the relevant international trade theories, and then analyses the impact mechanism of pork fraud on pork imports. The results show that pork fraud has both positive and negative effects on pork imports, and the actual impact of pork fraud on pork imports may be a mixed results of the two impact mechanisms.Subsequently, this paper introduces the current situation of pork fraud and fraud management in China, taking the actual situation in China as the practical basis of influencing mechanism analysis. In the empirical analysis section, this paper chooses the data of bilateral pork trade between China and 18 countries from 2001 to2017,and then puts pork fraud and its lagged items into the gravity model to empirically analyze the influence of pork fraud on pork imports. The results show that pork fraud has a significant negative effect on pork import in China, while one-period lag and two-period lag have no significant positive and negative effect on pork import in China. This means that pork fraud in China hinders pork imports in general, but the empirical results of adding lagged items show that it also has the possibility of promoting trade. Finally,in view of the impact of pork fraud on imports, this paper puts forward some suggestions from the perspective of reducing pork fraud, such as strengthening the government’s management of pork safety, establishing and improving information-based data platform, and strengthening the supervision of third-party social forces.Due to limited capacity and time, there are some shortcomings in the article, such as insufficient statistics on the number of pork fraud incidents in China and the lack of sufficient indicators of pork fraud in empirical analysis. In the future, efforts will be made to broaden the sources of pork fraud statistics and establish more abundant indicators of pork fraud,so as to make a more comprehensive and in-depth analysis of pork fraud in China and its impact on pork imports. |
