Recently,General Secretary Xi said "To promote the high-quality development of China’s automobile manufacturing industry,we must strengthen the independent research and development of key core technologies and key components,realize technological selfreliance,and become stronger and bigger national brands." Automobile manufacturing industry is a highly technology-intensive industry,and its development is very important for the stability of domestic technological innovation.Therefore,in order to encourage innovation in the automobile manufacturing industry,the government actively provides subsidies to support the industry.But this also leads to a lot of problems in the industry,such as subsidies become one of the important means of automobile enterprises to whitewash statements.Therefore,this paper chooses to study the relationship between innovation input and innovation output in the automobile manufacturing industry,and takes Great Wall Motor as the main case to explore the impact of government subsidies on the innovation performance of the automobile manufacturing industry,which has theoretical and practical significanceIn this paper,by virtue of externality theory,market failure theory,signal transmission theory and government intervention theory,BCC-DEA model and DEAMalmquist model are used.On the one hand,government subsidies,capital input and labor input are taken as factors of innovation input,and government subsidies are subdivided into direct government subsidies and indirect government subsidies."Fiscal subsidies" and "tax incentives" are taken as indicators respectively.On the other hand,innovation output is classified from financial perspective and market perspective,and "net asset value per share" and "number of new patents" are taken as indicators respectively.In this way,the efficiency of using innovation input to produce innovation output in automobile manufacturing industry from 2017 to 2021 is measured.Secondly,this paper finds that although the scale of government subsidies obtained by Great Wall Motor from 2019 to 2021 is consistent with that of large enterprises,its innovation performance is close to that of small and medium-sized enterprises,so this paper makes a case analysis of it.Finally,based on the above research,this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)there is a large gap in innovation performance among automobile manufacturing enterprises;(2)The stability of innovation performance of automobile manufacturing industry is not strong;(3)Tax incentives affect innovation performance through R&D investment;(4)Financial subsidies affect innovation performance through intangible assets.Based on the above research conclusions,this paper gives the following suggestions:(1)enterprises should cooperate with each other to resist risks,and achieve "integration of production,education and research" with universities and research institutions;(2)The government should make different plans according to the characteristics of different industries while the overall plan of subsidy remains unchanged;(3)When enterprises correctly use subsidies,the government should also formulate corresponding subsidy supervision measures to improve enterprise innovation performance.
