Research On The Impact Of Construction Contract Flexibility On The Project Performance

Construction industry as an significant part of the national economy,its development related to all aspects of the development of China’s economic,social and ecological.However,owing to the increasing complexity of construction projects,the rapid change of the external environment and the diversification of the relationship between the project participants,the uncertainty of the project is increasing,and some projects have low quality and efficiency.Therefore,construction enterprises must promote their management ability,improve project performance by paying attention to the flexibility of construction contracts and strengthening the continuous trust level between the project contracting parties,in order to achieve high-quality development of construction enterprises.Based on this,this study takes construction projects as the research object,and constructs a conceptual model consisting of construction contract flexibility,ongoing trust,performance behavior and project performance.From the perspectives of flexible thinking and relational elements,this study focus on the influence mechanism of project performance and give management insights according to the research findings.This study collected 349 valid questionnaires through questionnaire surveys.Based on the valid data that was collected,data analysis by using SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 26.0 software,draw the following conclusions:(1)Both the flexibility of contract terms and contract execution have significant positive effects on project performance.(2)Both the flexibility of contract terms and contract execution have significant positive effects on the ongoing trust between clients and contractors.(3)Both the flexibility of contract terms and contract execution have significant positive effects on the contractor’s perfunctory performance behavior;the flexibility of contract terms has a significant positive effect on the contractor’s consummate performance behavior,but the flexibility of contract execution does not.(4)The ongoing trust between clients and contractors has a significant positive effect on project performance.(5)Both contractor’s perfunctory performance behavior and consummate performance behavior have significant positive effects on project performance.(6)The ongoing trust between clients and contractors plays a significant mediating role between the flexibility of contract terms and project performance;it also plays a significant mediating role between the flexibility of contract execution and project performance.(7)Contractor’s perfunctory performance behavior plays a significant mediating role between the flexibility of contract terms and project performance,contractor’s perfunctory performance behavior plays a significant mediating role between the flexibility of contract execution and project performance;contractor’s consummate performance behavior plays a significant mediating role between the flexibility of contract terms and project performance,but the contractor’s consummate performance behavior does not.In the aspect of theory,this study expands its influence path on construction project performance based on the construction contract flexibility,and enrich the research theory of construction project performance.In terms of construction practice,by paying attention to the flexibility of construction project contract,the contracting parties can improve the level of ongoing trust between each other and promote the active performance of the contractor,so as to improve project performance.
