Evaluation Of The Quality Of ESG Disclosure In The New Energy Automotive Industry

In recent years,a number of environmental protection measures have been introduced to achieve sustainable development and the goals of carbon peaking by2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060,with energy conservation and emission reduction initiatives enhanced by supporting policies.ESG information disclosure is also receiving increasing attention from Chinese regulators.According to the current policy environment,disclosure of ESG information by listed companies is gradually becoming mandatory,but there is still a lack of metrics to measure and evaluate the quality of ESG information disclosure by companies.The new energy vehicle industry is an important industry in China’s green transformation,and due to its status as an important influencer of economic transformation and development and the emergence of environmental and social issues,all sectors of society are paying increasing attention to ESG information disclosed by new energy vehicle companies,and moreover,corporate disclosure of ESG information has become more important.Moreover,ESG information disclosed by companies has a direct impact on the judgement and decision-making of information users.This paper assesses the quality of ESG information disclosure using a hierarchical analysis and case studies.Based on relevant theories and studies on ESG information disclosure at home and abroad,this paper uses the hierarchical analysis method and case study method with reference to the requirements of the GRI Guidelines on the quality characteristics of information disclosure,the regulatory requirements on ESG information disclosure for listed companies in the new energy automotive industry,and the characteristics of the industry in China.The GRI guidelines were used to develop a rating system for the quality of ESG information disclosure of listed companies in the new energy vehicle industry in China.It includes six criterionlevel indicators such as integrity,14 sub-criterion-level indicators such as environmental disclosure,social disclosure and governance disclosure,and 32programme-level indicators such as carbon emissions,energy consumption and environmental governance opportunities.At the same time,the report takes BYD,a listed company in the new energy vehicle industry,as a case study and evaluates its ESG disclosure by compiling and collecting its ESG disclosure information and applying the constructed evaluation model to make an assessment of the effectiveness of the evaluation system.Recommendations are made to improve the quality of disclosure.The innovations in this paper cover two aspects.The first is the innovation of the rating system.Based on the international GRI Quality Characteristics Framework for ESG Disclosure,this paper takes into account China’s regulatory requirements and industry characteristics,selects six indicators at the criteria level,such as integrity,and adds indicators at the sub-criteria level,such as environmentally friendly design solutions,to make the evaluation system established in this paper more local and new applicable to the energy vehicle industry.The second point is the innovation of the research subject.The new energy vehicle industry,to which this paper belongs,is one of the key industries in China’s green transformation,and there are relatively few studies on the quality of ESG disclosure in this industry.Therefore,this paper takes the analysis of BYD as a starting point and aims to discover problems in the disclosure process through the analysis,make suggestions and contribute to improving the quality of ESG information disclosure in this industry.
