The value of railway passing capacity reflects the level of railway transportation management.The accurate calculation of passing capacity is the research focus in the field of railway transportation and serves as the main basis for developing passenger and freight transportation plans,which is of great significance for improving the utilization of passing capacity.The "Method for Calculating Railway Section Passing Capacity" was formulated and published by the former Ministry of Railways of the People’s Republic of China in 1984,which established the deduction coefficient as the main method for calculating passing capacity and has been in use since then.However,with the continuous development of railway transportation equipment and transportation organization technology in China,the current method has some limitations in accurately reflecting the overlapping impacts between trains,resulting in some inadaptability in calculations.It is of great significance to conduct research on optimizing the deduction coefficient method for calculating passing capacity.The main work of this paper includes:(1)Summarizing the current status of domestic and foreign studies on passing capacity calculation;elaborating the main idea of UIC related methods,deduction coefficient method,direct calculation method,average minimum train interval method;considering the advantages and disadvantages,applicability and application of the existing calculation methods,deduction coefficient method selected as the main research method.(2)Based on the analysis of factors affecting railway capacity,defining capacity as a range value that fluctuates within a bounded and finite standard value space,and raising the main purpose of this paper is to quantify the fluctuation range of passing capacity.(3)Analyzing the characteristics of deduction coefficients in double-line automatic block signaling sections for mixed passenger and freight trains on conventional speed railways,proposing calculation methods for the maximum and minimum values of deduction coefficients and passing capacity,and providing corresponding formulas.Taking a section of the Beijing-Shanghai Railway as a case study,the feasibility of the calculation method is verified.The results show that the fluctuation range of capacity is large in busy sections.(4)Analyzing the characteristics of deduction coefficients in high-speed railways of the same speed level and mixed-running high-speed railways with different speed levels,proposing calculation methods for the maximum and minimum values of deduction coefficients and passing capacity,and providing corresponding formulas.Taking sections of the Beijing-Tianjin Intercity Railway,Harbin-Dalian High-speed Railway,and BeijingShanghai High-speed Railway as case studies,the feasibility of the calculation methods under different scenarios is verified,and the results are analyzed.(5)Applying the deduction coefficients and capacity range to the evaluation of timetable quality,proposing an evaluation method based on the TOPSIS(Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution)approach with deduction coefficients and capacity range as evaluation indicators.Taking actual train timetables or feasible train paths with the maximum number of trains to be operated on four railway sections as case studies,the feasibility of the method is verified.The results show that reducing the mixed running of trains with different speed levels,reducing speed differences between mixed running trains,and shortening tracking intervals can significantly improve timetable quality.The main innovations of this article are: 1)defining capacity as a range value;2)proposing a calculation method for passing capacity range at double line automatic block mixed passenger and freight railway;3)proposing a calculation method for passing capacity range at high-speed railway passenger flow sections.The main research value of this article lies in: Quantifying the fluctuation range of passing capacity and providing a theoretical reference for the value of the passing capacity under different timetable scheduling ways.This paper contains a total of 46 figures,16 tables,and 80 references.
