Railway wagons refer to a transport tool used to carry goods in railway transportation;for a long time,general-purpose wagons have occupied most of the railway wagon market share.And by the industrial policy and restructuring,the railway wagon market demand began from "large quantities of general-purpose" to "small quantities of customised type" change,which led to the general-purpose wagon as the main business of the traditional railway wagon manufacturing enterprise’s development level put forward higher requirements.In this context,the information system began to introduce the use and significantly improve the efficiency and quality of railway wagon development.However,the previously independent and decentralised system construction models have led to insufficient breadth,integration ability,and depth in the data management architecture of railway wagon manufacturing enterprises,resulting in low data resource management capabilities and greatly hindering the improvement of research and development level.PLM technology,as a kind of data management method with integrated collaboration and comprehensive management characteristics,improves the development level of the enterprise by optimising the data management architecture.The emergence of PLM provides a technical approach to solving the existing problems of data management architecture in railway wagon manufacturing enterprises,so there is an urgent need to optimise the data management architecture using PLM technology.This study introduces PLM technology to the railway wagon manufacturing industry for the first time,intending to improve the data resource management capability of railway wagon manufacturing enterprises,and solves the existing problems of enterprise data management architecture by constructing a PLM-based data management architecture of railway wagon.Firstly,by analysing the current application status of PLM technology in other advanced manufacturing industries at home and abroad,this dissertation provides reference cases for studying data management architecture in the railway wagon industry.Secondly,this dissertation uses PLM technology to analyse the existing development process of railway wagons.Because of the characteristics of complex structure,numerous types and massive process data of wagon products,this dissertation proposes a data management framework for railway wagons with comprehensive,digital,correlated and integrated features.Thirdly,relying on the data management framework,this dissertation researches railway wagons’ data integration management technology based on the XBOM mapping theory to improve the data integration capability.Then,starting from the three dimensions of product design management,process design management and lifecycle data management,this dissertation studies the critical technologies of railway wagon data management and designs the implementation plan to deepen data management.Finally,Company A,a railway wagon manufacturer,is taken as a case study to optimize the data management architecture of Company A and propose an implementation plan based on Company A’s existing information construction foundation by applying the PLM-based data management architecture of the railway wagon.By applying the PLM-based data management architecture of the railway wagon to Company A,the breadth of enterprise data management has been enhanced,deepening the application of data management and forming an integrated closed-loop management of product data.Up to now,it has recorded more than 1500 pieces of demand data and managed more than 3000 pieces of design data.Information transfer efficiency has been improved by about 100%,and the design time has been shortened by about 30%.The PLM-based data management architecture of railway wagons provides an effective method to enhance railway wagon manufacturing enterprises’ data resource management capability.
